Approximately how much would it cost to get a new paintjob? I have so many chips in the paint from rocks because I've go on so many gravel roads to my friends' houses, so its not worth it to me to retouch up the paint. Id rather get a stronger paint job
I would check with your insurance. I know that i dont have full coverage, but its one below it, and for a $250 deductible rock chips, parking lot dents, and keying of the car is covered.

if it's just the front of the car, then get the hood and bumper painted then covered with 3m protective film. you dont need the entire car painted.
and asking here is not going to help you out. you need to call paint shops in your area. they can give you an accurate quote.

i payed 2900 to put a show car level paint job on my '99 vette. 3 layers of clear and lots of color sanding 8). dont pay that much though...

How did that turn out compared to factory? If you went for the same color, and they didn't pull the engine to paint the bay, was it noticable where the new paint met the old under the hood or where window seals etc. had been masked?
I'd love to know whether a decent paint job where they didn't strip the entire car can look as good as new, or if the small clues can give it away.

what paint did they use. 2900 is not the cost of a "show level" paintjob. paint and supplies alone are about half that if you go with a top brand like ppg or hok.
wolfe: i really cant answer those questions... yet. the car is still being painted now. the car didn't have a hood on it when i gave it to them (i gave them a hood that will fit the blower instead ). they COMPLETELY disassembled the car before even starting to sand everything down so there was no masking except on the front and rear windows and the engine bay. to remove the engine requires the removal of the ENTIRE drive train, so they didn't do that... stupid pain in the ass American engineering...
the415: i'm not sure what brand of equipment or paint they are using, but its the best shop in my town and i have a personal guarantee from the guy at the shop, and i quote "you'll be able to count your eyelashes when you look at the paint before i will give the car back". he promised that he would put the best guys in his shop on the job, and he did. i met them personally before they started and each gave me a similar guarantee. to sum all that up, i'm sure its gonna look really good.
its been in the shop for nearly 3 weeks now and i should have it back in about 2 weeks. i'll make sure to post pictures then.
the best paint shop i know will do a excellent level paint job for no less that 4,200. They charged 1500 when my car got keyed, but they did such a good job that I didn't mind paying. But basically my experience with paint is this... you get what you pay for. If you only spend a grand, don't expect show quality. It's a rip off i know, but its true
no, i knew u werent knocking me. i was just explaining my situation. and ur definitely right, paint is NOT cheap... theres a good reason to, its a HUGE PITA to paint a car. i repainted a lot of the stuff on the interior of my car the right way (spray gun, compressor and such as that) and just doing that sucked major ass...
Paint pricing varies GREATLY with region. A guy in a city with a bunch of high end custom shops will pay much more for a basic paint job than a guy in a smaller city where there's no custom market.
I see you're in Houston area...... You should look around. There are LOTS and LOTS of small shops in Htown area. You can probably find a small shop that does good work for a reasonable price.
You don't need SHOW CAR paint. You can have a collision repair shop lay down a nice paint job on the front end of your car for a reasonable price (especially if you're paying CASH $$$).
