I'm looking to paint a set of rim. Actually they are bronze. The BodyShop guy say there is no problem painting those rim if they are sanded properly. How durable is this kind of job, those the rim chip at the first rock hit. Should I'le be better with powdercoating? How much those it cost to powder coat a set of rim?

Powdercoat is generally the way to go, but a well done paint job holds up fine also - that's what most stock factory wheels have as their finish.

I've met a guy who painted his stock speed wheels gold/bronze himself. He said it didn't take too long and that it was holding up well. Probably a good bit cheaper, too.

If you get them paainted at a body shop then it depends if u clear them or not. I mean if they painted them in the same manner they painted a car they would scratch and or get swirl marks just like your car paint would.

I Dupicolored my wheels and they are holding up just fine. I am very happy with the results! pm me if you need help.
