Painted my emblems (w/Pics)

Lately I sprayed my emblems but over a week or two they began to chip. So i got fed up with just spraying them every few weeks, I did some research on this forum and hopefully did the process the right way. I wrote a little how to and I know this has been discussed before many many times. So if its in the wrong section or if this information isn't needed, im sorry and a mod can remove this thread if need to.

Materials Used:
400 Grit sand paper
Gallon of bleach
Krylon Indoor/Outdoor white primer
Krylon FUSION Gloss black
Krylon Crystal Clear Gloss Clear

Step One:
Take the emblems put them in a container and fill that container with bleach. Leave over night and the bleach will eat away the old paint, chrome etc. Until bare plastic is left. The total time for the bleach process took three days for me, to take off all the paint and chrome. After all the paint/chrome is taken off, scrub the emblem with the rough side of the sponge to get any left over particles. Then dry

Step Two:
Take the primer and spray the emblem in a sweeping motion 6-8inchs from surface. (I put three coats of primer on the front emblem for reassurance, 20 mins in between coats).

Step Three:
After the primer is completely dry, take your paint and in the same sweeping motion spray the emblem. I did 4 coats on the front emblem for reassurance, 20 mins in between coats).

Step Four:
After your final coat of paint, let the paint completely dry, i waited a good hour or so just to make sure. Now finally get your clear coat and in the same sweeping motion apply the clear coat. I applied two coats of clear, 20 mins in between coats.

**Final product**

Total Cost of Materials:
$15.00 for primer/paint/clear/bleach at wal-mart

Did the chrome portion of my grille the same way w/similar results. In hindsight, I should have just scuffed the chrome and painted over it and not attempted to strip the chrome with bleach. When I painted it there still was plating that remained on the plastic, which was visible on my finished product.

Next mod ...new grille :)
yea even after 3 days of bleaching the emblems, not all of the chrome came off. I tried my best and i know they aren't anywhere near the quality of the member on this forum that paints emblems for us. I just waned to attempt this and I am pleased with the result for a first time.
Did you remove the rear emblem? if so...what's the best way to get it off?
the badge has 2 pins and is mounted with tape..run fishing line or floss in between the badge and car to break seal of adhesive and pull badge off
looks good :goodjob:
How did you get the chrome trim around the front emblem? Looks really good and I'm thinking about doing it on mine, but my car is black.

I just sanded mine... 2 or 3 coats of primer, same of base, same of clear. Yeah, that chipped the first time I got close to a sand truck this winter.

rofl, thank you. I had the decal made from some website, I think it was around 20 shipped for two decals. Its a bit late but tomorrow ima look for the website and pm you the address.

Also I bleached the emblems for about three days to get most of the chrome off, after I just used some sand paper. Then primer, paint and finally clear coat.

lol he said "thank you once it gets warmer I will try to paint my emblems as well and there is no other ride then a mazda" lol......
There's something about clearcoat in the can that makes the paint look flat instead of glossy. I had this problem when I decided to paint some of my trim pieces with the can and it never turned out how I wanted it to.
