Has anyone owned a Mazda/Ford joint venture? Ford Escort Gt, Mercury Tracer, Ford Probe etc.....

I owned a 1991 Ford Escort Gt and it was my favorite car prior to the 3.
Paid 5k for it at 50K miles and drove it to 164k without really any problems.
My 3 reminds me of that car , the parts that were Mazda.... Like the 1.8 engine and tranny.
Would have kept it longer but didn't want to put money into a new a/c.

Also a friend had a 1988 Tracer which is mechanically a Mazda 323 and never had a prob.

Both these cars were manuals, I can't say I have had luck with Mazda ATX....

Had a '89 Ford Probe quite a while back. Jacked up, the undercarriage it was identical to the Mazda MX-6.

In fact, my Probe's 2.3L had the Mazda name plate on it.

I have not owned any of those cars but seem to remember hearing something about the auto trans in the probes being boat anchors.

I bought a auto trans 2001 Protege thinking Mazda had fixed trans problems that were common in the Probe, Mx6, and 626 but was wrong. My Protege was on its 4th tranny at 34k miles when I traded it in.

i still own my 1995 escort gt
i originally had a 1996 escort off the lot, was totaled 5 years later, bought a 95 gt and had insurance money left over. bought it with 103,000 miles, now has 163,000 miles, but this motor has 166,000 miles, only reason i lost a motor was my intake sucked up water. and it sat with no money ( i drove my miata aroudn for a year till i sold the miata for money twords my ms3)

well im keeping it its my project car going ot build it for show/speed/handling going to do a balance of all 3. and i wll do the paint and body work and interior at home, only thing i wont do is powder coat and i have a freind that does it.
thinkign gtr turbo swap, and some other goodies if all comes through.

had a 91 mx6, thing looked nice but was a mechanical house of horrors, but when i got it, it already had 170.000 miles...
it was a fun college car

Borrowed a friend's E-GT for about a month while I re-did the engine in my Ford Ranger. The 1.8 with a free'd up exhaust has a great twin cammy rasp alot like my Fiats do. It revved very well too, it was a beautifuly simple car to match-RPM downshift in. It was a blast wring it out on a long straight and then bring it down 3 gears for a corner.
