It's a mazdaspeed, and the "first one they worked on". They fixed the problems, then when the shop was closed two of the guys took her out for a nice spin. Likely redlined it a few times and took it on the highway to get the top speed. Simple enough.
The reason I think that is I knew two guys who worked for Chevy and they did that exact thing. If the customer had a fast ride, and they were complaining about the alignment, it was a green light for them. Hell, a guy brings a Corvette Z06 in to check the steering, and you aren't gonna have fun with it? Espcially if it's left overnight, since they can try it out when the shop closes and go home for the night.
What is the owner gonna say? Hey man, you put 20 miles on my car, what gives? Well, you asked them to check the alignment and had a CEL, they can justify the mileage by test driving. Gently, of course.
There is no other rational for 20 miles on the odometer. You brought the first speed in there, and they got to experience what the bitch had. I'd be shocked if it was any different than that.
