Well after looking around a bit and year of driving in winter on my straight performance tires I decided I needed some better winter tires. My Choices were down to a few and I ended up with a very well priced and great tire the Bridgestone Potenza G009. I had originally planned on getting some Touranza's but liked the tread and other ratings of the G009 better. I've had them on for about a month now in some good snow and slush and ice and they have worked beautifully, just thought I'd throw this out for the people who live in crappy snow. I plan on keeping these tires on during the spring and summer to see how grippy they are, if they work well enough they will be a nice all season tire keeping me from having to switch out wheels and tires every season.

They also make this in two sidewalls a stiff and a medium, If you plan on pushing them hard the stiff sidewall is a good idea

Those tires rock, IMO. Best tires I have had. Drove smooth as silk on my performance truck, handled well, and did nicely in all weather. I had my cousin buy them for his Maxima Sport. He loves them!

Best rated winter tire on tirerack, these are the best performance tires I've ever had. But they'll cost ya. Of course I live up here in Canada, and we get some pretty hardcore winters, except for this year.

I'm running the wintersport m3's and they are one of the best tires I've ever driven on, period.

Not only does my car handle amazingly, but i can drive on solid ice easily without losing traction.

I actually have those, the Potenza G009's on now.. They were pretty good on dry weather and wet weather. I am now looking to get these other tires...I want a little lower profile for my 16s.

very nice. What size did you end up getting? I got the Avon Tech M550 a/s, which are also very good for the price I got them at 8) . I'll most likely get the Dunlop M3's when I switch back to winter/summer tires.

I had the G009's on a Protege5. Definately smoother & quieter, good in wet, didnt' get a chance to try in snow/ice. Seems like a good tire at a good price, but my MPG went down a little. Just throwing that out to those of whom consider that an issue.

For size I ended up with the 215/50/17 A little higher sidewall then my last set, and I think they look much better than the old one, kind of closes up the wheel gap a little.

How do you know u are getting stiff sidewall or medium ones?

check the load rating, the one with the higher number has the stiffer sidewall.

Thanks, Hexedit. I ended up getting Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D, which is replacement of M3's that you have. I am getting them mounted + balanced tomorrow. I checked the sidewalls, and they are stiff, which is good. Can't wait to try them in snow this friday.

I should have mentioned you should also check the speed rating, usually the v-z rated tires have the stiffer sidewall.

I have these g009s as well -- I haven't decided if I like them; they're definately better than the badyears but the Michelins on my honda seem to grip a good bit better in snow. It's tough driving a car with so much power in snow!

It does indeed have good ratings, but do note the type of cars they tend to be installed on. "Good" is relative.

Wow with our meltoff here in chicago I've noticed my tire grip is vastly improved now that most of the salt is rinsed off the roads... I suppose temperature is a factor as well?

I just put a new set of Blizzak REVO 1's on my car (replaced 18" rims with 16" rims) and the car sticks to the road like it's supposed to. In April, I'll put the Mazda 18" wheels back on! I got the rims/tires form tirerack.com and they delivered the mounted/balanced whells the next day!
