Hello everyone I am new to these forums and plan on buying a MS3 in the next 2 weeks. Right now I have a deal lined up for a Brand new 2009 MS3 GT with all options for about $22,395. But yet I have spotted a Used 2008 MS3 Sport for about 14,495 talked them down from 18,495 with 32,300 miles. I was wondering which one should I go with. It would be nice to have a $100 less on the monthly payment compared to the new. My question is would it be worth to spend the extra 7k+ on the the New MS3 compared to the used? Because I am not too sure how long the MS3's last. If its over 150k or even 200k. I drive about 25k miles a year. So reliability really is my main concern, but I also love the speed/handeling that comes with the MS3 so the M3 is out of the question.

Thanks,

Adam

If you keep it stock, buy the unlimited mileage warranty and get the used one. Save some money and take someone else's hit on depreciation. Upgrade the stereo and get HID with the extra money if you want.

Okay I think the Sport comes with the HID headlights but not the xenon's. Well for the 2009 model im not too sure about the 2008. Since the USED MS3 is at a Honda dealer instead of a mazda dealer. Im not too sure if I could get the unlimited warrently unless i am able to take my car to mazda and purchase the warrenty via cash. Saving money is always the better idea, as that money could be put to more upgrades later on than monthly payments and interest. One thing I'm affraid of is the previous owner could of dogged the shit out of the engine.

Check with jlarson or Tiffany to see if they can sell an extended warranty. Not sure if they still work at a Mazda dealer, but it shouldn't be a problem to call any one of them and get one. There are also third party providers that will sell you one, but you'll need pre-authorization and need to file claim papers all the time.

I don't think the sport models come with hids, but dabears2k.com sells them.

Don't worry about the motor getting flogged. If its stock, the throttle closes at redline. With 32k miles in less than a year, it is most likely highway miles anyway.

I would go with the used one. You can get a lot of miles out of these. Already I have seen at least one memeber here top 189,000 miles with a few problems, but not anything significantly major. I bought mine off of the end of a lease and it has 42k on it now with no problems, squeaks, or anything.

Search it. I think it was in the high mileage thread. It was a pretty long post about a guy that wasn't too happy with the car because he has had a number of small problems and no resulting condolence from Mazda. Regardless of what car, you are going to have problems very ofter when you average 50,000+ miles a year.

i think you're mistaking a mz3 for a ms3. where's this ms3 with 189k miles?

Yea I'm going to play stupid here at this point. It was a Mz3.

I wouldn't suspect a MS3 to be much different in terms of longevity unless it gets modified, then you're looking at probably a much shorter life span.

Thank you all for comments and suggestions. I've contacted the dealer with the Used Speed3, they said the best they can do is 18,409 with 33k on the car. I said no thanks, I currently have a offer for a 2009 Speed3 Sport for $20,505 with extended warrenty. Going in this weekend to take the car from them. I will let everyone know the OTD price once everything is said and done.
