Just last Saturday I purchased an '04 Mazda 3s hatch, 5 speed. Since 2000 I've been driving my starter car, a '94 Ford Escort wagon. The 'Scort was going fine, needing very little maintenance. However, just last week, it started to die while idling, so I had it looked at. It became a scenario of what isn't wrong with the car. Seems like the car saved up all it's problems and threw it all at me in one go. It just wasn't worth it trying to get it all patched together, so I was in the market for a new car (on a budget - I'm 24 and I don't make gobs of money yet).

I had been ranting on and on about Toyota, but the only car that met my needs was the Matrix, and although I'm sure it's a fine car, I just couldn't get myself excited about getting one - something about the styling of the car or something (plus, the high-performance Matrix requires premium gas only, which is a no-go for me). But recently my brother purchased himself a Mazda 6, so I checked out some Mazda cars. When I saw the hatch, it was the perfect blend of what I needed from my 'Scort and what I wanted from a sports car (minus the fact it isn't RWD). Plus, it was just too cute!

I had a real hard time tracking down the exact car I wanted - winning blue, 5-speed, hatch. I found plenty of '07s, but they just weren't within my price range. But I finally found a cute '04 that was only a little over 30 miles away. After a long day at the dealership, the cutie Axela was mine. However, I must mention that I've only had about one hour of 5-speed driving experience under my belt before I got the car, so imagine the dealer's surprise when my family and I show up to test drive the car and none of us really know how to drive stick. Thankfully, the dealer really wanted a sale and took me to a mall parking lot to get a feel for it. I still haven't got finess, but I can get where I need to go.

I'm so incredibly pleased with the 3. It's got twice the HP as my poor Escort, it's got just enough sportiness for me to be happy and keep me out of jail, and it's got the practicality of my wagon. She still has a lot to teach me, but I'm lovin' every minute of it! I can't believe that there's so much to the 3, which is still technically an economy car! I'm also glad that there's a community of 3 lovers that I can join. Thanks for letting me rant. :)

Wow, you got a find. Winning Blue is a difficult color to find, and was even when new. A used one it rare at best. And a hatch too. Nice work!

I'm working on that. :) The weather in Kentucky's rather cold right now, and naturally my car has road grime on it thanks to the salt trucks. Once it gets a little warmer and my car gets a good bath, I'll be all over it with those pictures. (I also need to snap a few pics of my old Escort before it gets hauled away - I'm gonna miss it).

Congrats on the new car. The colour is great - we considered it ourselves, if our dealer only carried it on the lower-end models...
