Hello everyone, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'll give it a try. About a year ago, I bought a new Mazda 3 Grand Touring in Black Mica, 5 speed. Then I got very sick, had to quit my job and sell the car, which was a heartbreaker because I loved that car.
Anyway, Now I am getting back on my feet and thinking of buying an 06 Mazda 3 Grand Touring. But I am also looking at Mazda RX8, 04 or 05. I was surprised to see that the RX8 blue book value was almost the same as the Mazda 3.
I want to know if anyone on this board has a RX8 and can give me some insight. I guess I am just trying to find out if the RX8 had some problems or the resale value is so low because of gas mileage. I've owned about 6 Mazda cars and have loved each one and never had any problems(knock on wood).

Thanks.

Sorry if this was the wrong place to post this.

Hi there - the resale value does drop on the 8 - especially the 04 and 05 models - which had the most problems, mostly flooding issues. Mazda extended the warranty on the rotary engine to 100,000 last year on all years which was a good move on their part. Try to search for a late 05 or 06, you should still find a decent one under 20k. The gas mileage is not that great -I average about 16 or 17 miles a gallon and a quart of oil every 1,500 miles. I do not drive it in the winter but if you get a good set of all season tires you should be fine. There is more of a demand for a 3 than the 8 so you are going to get low balled by the dealership if you try to trade it in. The handling and driving experience is like driving an exotic car (manual transimission) and it will be something you will not get tired of looking at. I have an 06 and have had 0 problems. Check rx8club.com and read up and do your research and way the pros and cons to see if it is something that you are going to be happy with.
