I'm not sure about years, but the models vary. I bought an extra one because my front license bracket got stolen from my car(before I got my plates) and the mazda dealer gave me a non-ms3 one. It didn't sit flush with the mounting points but still fit. I suppose if you're a perfectionist it would be a bother.
