Typically, they take the door handles and weld a plate in where they used to be. You use a magnetic solenoid or popper that pushes the door, and there is an actuator that releases the door latch, so when you push a button the latch releases and the popper swings the door open enough for you to grab it and take over. Some can open all the way, but that's hideously expensive. Cool but expensive.
