I just bought a mint loaded 05 3, but the engine and transmission was stolen (hence why it was only $2000). From what people have said, it seems that an engine from an auto car can be mated with a manual transmission, but the other way around? My car is an auto; can I get an engine from a manual and mate it to an auto transmission? There's a lot of good engines from manuals around, but I can't find an auto. Could I run the original ECU with the new engine, or would that need to be swapped as well?

I don't want to deal with attempting an ATX to MTX swap.

FYI it's an 2005 2.3 in Canada.

the engine CPU is an engine CPU. however it may contain the tranny program too. i would think that you'll have to find the whole engine tranny package together.

You sure? I'd just need the ATX ECU and an auto flywheel, right?

There's a lot more good manuals around than autos.

yep just make sure the cpu came out of a vehicle with your transmission not just any auto. And that the cpu is for the same year engine.
