Turbos: GT3076R
interesting, dropped almost a second with only modest mods and a turbo upgrade.
starting to look like 12's are possible

I've been watching that guy progress from stock from to what he's got now - quite impressive - i'd say he can hit 12's on his current setup, depending on how his launch traction issues are. Plus he's only got 225's on it...he needs CosmicBlueMS3's wheels/tires :)

Must be on drag slicks. 2.000 60ft in a 3000+ lb FWD car doesn't happen on street tires. Trap Speed was only 103.9 too, rougly 3mph more than stock. This time was mostly related to traction.

I hope this isn't a repost. A friend of mine just sent me this link -

Yep. I agree. Id hate to draw conclusions without much information, but I think Id be far more impressed with a more basic setup achieving 13.6 @ 104+ without having to change out the turbo

+1

As said, there really isn't much meat to eat off the link, but regardless, it really doesn't impress me. The trap speed is absolutely unimpressive (GT30R...and trapping 103? ), and with all those mods, the ecu doesn't seem to have been modified to compensate in any way; an unwise approach to modifying in my book...

Btw, I'm not knocking the guy or anything, it's just I want to see the MS3 represented properly. I've been hoping the owner/driver would chime in and let us know the kinda progress he's involved in, as being the first reported upgraded turbo MS3 could be pretty exciting news.

Do you know him personally or anything? Just curious, I've never read of his progress in any of the forums (maybe I missed his posts in other sites?)...been hoping he'd let us in on some of his experiences with his MS3.

Im not sure how much one can learn from his contribution...

The right way to mod is to wait for products, sometimes even competition... make comparisons, understand in advance the consequences of the mod, THEN buy it...

Its always a SMALL handful of people that run to get the big mods before anyone else, thinking they will become a benchmark to the tuning potential of the car. I as well have nothing against this guy... but the smartest tuner is the guy who sits back and lets other play... and once hes comfortably determined what mods will do what, he writes out a plan, or blueprint(if you will), and FULLY expects the benefits/drawbacks he may receive.

Its too early in the game to be jumping on new turbos. Its a test of failing over and over... A person who considers his mazdaspeed3 as his daily driver, should NOT consider upgrading the turbo so early.. until there are proven tuning solutions available that will allow you to gauge all parameters of your setup and understand what that new turbo is doing to your car.

Especially when the XEDE EMS is putting out low 13's with no other mods. Whatever the size of your turbo the ECU is still cutting off the boost.

Is that a fact? Id be very interested in seeing what a stock MS3 w XEDE would do... anyone have slips? or times?
