The other day I was driving along at a steady 65 MPH in 6th and I went to pass another car. I quickly went to WOT on the throttle and just as the car began to accelerate, it lost all power for about 1/2 second and then it came right back and ran normally. It was like someone turned the key off for a fraction of a second. Car was fully warmed up, but it was very cold outside (-6F). That was the only time it did it.

Anyone else have this happen to them or does anyone know what would cause this?

When you say loss of power....Did the RPM's drop to 0? Did the CEL turn on? Did your radio turn off? Did you lose power steering? Did you hear silence? Did any of the lights like the airbag light or any of the normal lights you would see on your dash when you start your car or turn off your car turn on?

I didn't notice anything other than the loss of power. My eyes were on the road so I wouldn't have notice any lights on the dash or the tach. It was kinda dark, so I probably would have noticed if the headlights went out. I don't think they did. After it happened, I checked and there was no CEL. Everything else was okay.

High 30's first two times and 16deg. the third. The motor was cold on the 3rd time, warm but near the beginning of the drive the other times. I got no CEL's it is definitely not electrical, but what I'd call a hesitation or stumble in the motor. My car is at the dealer, now with a CEL, and I think the two are related and are the fault of the bad purge valve. That is my guess we will see.

yup^^

sounds like basic turbo lag to me... These engines are just so well tuned in the lower gears where you barely get that hesistation of building boost. However, if youre cruising under boost, youre bound to feel lag when you stomp it. Its what makes a turbo, a turbo. :)

Then again, something could be wrong too... who knows... I wasnt there to confirm

I get what the OP gets too. I do daily driving on a 50km stretch of highway and a lot of passing, i noticed this every so often. Im usually right in the middle of the powerband as well with teh turbo already spinning up. I wouldnt attribute it to lag, as I havent experienced this on older turbo'd cars. I think its just the ECU.

I had that myself. It's like it just "stopped" for a millisecond, and came right back.

Coming home from work this morning I was 'testing' my car against my buddies 06 Eclipse GT. I had done this once before previously with the same conditions (-35C slightly slipperly roads, no spin, DSC on). Both our cars had been warmed up for the same amount of time and driving.

Previously it was pretty even, i was faster in the lower gears, and rolling from lower speeds, he was slightly faster in the midrange and i was overall had a higher top speed.

This time however, from mid, mid-lo and highspeed starts my car wouldnt budge and he smoked me every time. My car was awesome on the drive to work today, but not so on the way home.

Me thinks im getting the xede to combat this problem. I will probalby get the AP too if it comes out in a timely fashion. I will probably only have this car for 2.5 more years. So waiting for a year for the AP is a waste of time (33% of my time with this car).

Yep, kinda like a hiccup. I didn't notice any smoke, but wasn't looking. Not a lag - it was a definite loss of power.

My conditions were almost identical. about 5 below, 6th gear, cruising along @ about 60-65, and then that little stutter. Very jarring, but then right back on it, and it was fine.

OMG not this ... please leave this on th ms6 forums! It's already spreading =/

I'm fairly new to driving a stick but If I floor it going 65 mph in 6th gear it feels like the engine bogs down and the clutch feels like it slips. Shouldn't you be shifting down to 5th gear if your only going 65 mph and plan on going WOT? Your RPMS are only sitting at about 3k... wouldn't you want to be in 5th gear if you plan on flooring it? Usually to pass someone I just press on the gas slowly in 6th gear until the RPMS reach 4k. Sorry to sound like a newb, I just want to make sure I understand what this guy is talking about.
