just got my oil changed and dealer that was changing my oil told me that lukoil a russian oil company just bought mobile and changed some components in the oil and now mobile did not pass inspection in US. anyone heard of that? any thoughts on that
Um, your dealer is retarded. Lukoil and Mobil have been working together since 2000 when Lukoil wanted to get into the US market, starting with gas stations. Lukoil owns/runs the premiere racing team in Russia. There have been rumors of recent problems with Mobil1 synthetic oil, but I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with Lukoil's increasing interests in their company.
EDIT: Lukoil themselves also have recent API certification on a whole slew of products... certified Jan 24 2009 and good for a year:
EDIT EDIT: just because i'm proving your dealer wrong here does not mean i've ever used (or would ever use) these oils... i personally use Redline or Pennzoil Platinum... just saying they're wrong
I'd just like to say that the rumors of something "Wrong" is a little misleading. The issue is that there is something different with Mobil 1, at least in some viscosity grades. Most people think that the oil is now a Group 3 (Not technically synthetic, but might as well be for anybody not racing) base stock, instead of a Group 4 (Technically fully synthetic).
Not like I have any interest either as Pennzoil Platinum is generating great UOA's for me.
