Hey all,

I just thought I would share my excellent addition and findings with everyone. I have recently (last 3 days) purchased a 2007 STI as well as kept my MS3. The MS3 is becoming my project car (modded) and STI my daily driver. I realize this may sound somewhat backwards but I really love my MS3 and well love my STI too, but not as much. I also must say that my MS3 with the XEDE would surle'ly keep up and maybe beat the STI on the highway. I have not really pushed on the STI yet (only 280 miles) so I don't want to get everyones hopes up but i must say that the MS3 is one hell of a car.

The purpose of this post is shed some light on the potential of the MS3 in relationship to the STI/EVO type cars. The MS3 is so much more stable at speed on the highway and brakes like a champ. The STI does too but I (at this time) feel the MS3 does it slightly better. I have many mods planned for the MS3 (have at this time XEDE in car, in possession a HKS BOV and TurboXS cat delete pipe, awaiting TMIC, CAI, DP,Cat Back, AWR mount, Wheels/Tires).

The STI is Black in color...has SPT (Subaru's products) CAI in now and a heatshield and Cat-Back 3" on order. I plan to make the car look like the RB320 STI...Mesh grills, Side marker lights, Black OZ rims and tires 18x8 with 245/40/18 tires, Cobb lowering springs and Stage 2 tune using accessport or maybe an XEDE? As well as tinting the windows.

Will have some pics when both cars are done... CosmicBlueMS3 will be helping me with the mods (right Scott...;D?) and will be a driver of one of the vehicles for a showdown of sorts...we'll see what the MS3 does against an STI with some mods. I have a feeling the MS3 is going to fare quite well.

its cool you can afford both cars!
I cannot wait till im out of college~~~

But yeah does seem backward, haha but if you do like the MS3 more, go ahead!
I like STi, but 07 will have to grow on me with the new front end.

With the MS3 you've save about 7 - 8 thousand dollars over the sti. If you put 7 - 8 thousand dollars of engine mods in the MS3 it will defenitly beat a stock STI. In fact I don't think you really need to spend that much cash on the MS3 to get it to that level of performance.

I bought an STI in 2004 when they first brought them over. That is one car I regret getting rid of. I don't like the new front end's on them either. Anyway, I don't think my MS3 compares to my old STI. The STI was a lot more car in many ways (as well it should be when you compare pricing).

Hey all,

I have driven both cars back to back and the MS3 feels faster and more stable at high speeds. My MS3 has an XEDE only at this time, the STI has a SPT CAI only. Don't get me wrong the STI is a faster car off the line but the MS3 just feels like it is a better car at higher speeds. Who knows...When the STI is through it's breakin period I will flog the crap out of it and see. I just feel compelled to state that the MS3 is a phenomonal car for the money, amd with a few thousand dollars in mods it can be much more...besides the seats are much better! The reason I purchased the STI besides it's AWD is the RB320 STI...Nasty look. Check out www.rs320.co.uk and tell me what you think.

Im on the verge of something similar. I may import a slightly used or new sti from the states or buy my buddies '02 bugeye wrx with stage 2 turbo/ecu/ic and stage 3 exhaust. its pretty banged up but i can get it for cheap and gut it.

Glad to see you have both cars. When i test drove the sti and my other buddies sti i felt pretty much the same with highway speeds or double highway speeds. Although I live in the north so sti has its obvious AWD benefits and its much more of a racing beast. I would probably have more fun in the STI but am more comfortable for my highway trips and long commutes in my MS3.

hey I respect your decision to get the STI. as a former Subie driver, I applaud anyone with the wisdom to appreciate the "pure driving" experience of a turbocharged Subie.

if you don't mind me saying so, my vote would have been to get the 2007 Legacy GT Spec.B instead, especially for use as a daily driver. The new '07 Spec.B comes with the same 6-spd manual as the STI - although you don't get the DCCD feature.

but the luxury & ammenities available on the Legacy are far above the dated design of the STI both exterior & interior. not even the much more expensive (and virtually impossible to find now) STI Limited has all the creature comforts of the LGT.

as for stability at higher speeds, that's where the Legacy really shines over the STI. The aerodynamics of the Legacy are far ahead of the STI. The LGT has a nearly full underbody package to slip through the air with minimal resistance. even the wheel wells have vortex generators under the car to reduce parrasitic drag at the wheels.

in terms of power, yes the STI comes with 50 extra ponies over the stock LGT. but its very easy to extract an equivalent amount (or much more) power from the LGT depending on the amount of $$$$ spent. Just a DP and Cobb AP will net you a car with 280 whp & 300 wtq.

I sound like I'm bashing your choice and that's not my intention. I am jeolous of your ability to own both rides at the same time. I sold my heavily modded '05 Legacy GT Limited in order to get my new MS3. And I completely and whole-heartedly agree with your opinion that the MS3 is a helluva good performer especially at its entry price point for a base Sport model. And the stability and acceleration above 80 mph is wonderful - as are the marvelous stock brakes. The brakes are far superior to the stock Legacy and comparable to the STI Brembos in stopping power. Not sure (yet) about how well the MS3 brakes will survive track event endurance testing.

Good luck with both your MS3 project car and your STI ride. Please keep this thread going and post up pics so we can all enjoy (and live vicariously). :)

What would be nice is the Legacy STi Spec (C?) which is not availble in NA.

Hey all,

I don't want everyone thinking I am a spoiled brat or the like. I am very lucky to have a job that pays extremely well. I have always worked for I want in life and yes the wife is the one doing the hitting. This is the second car I have purchased without her prior knowledge...The first being the MS3. My wife was in the hospital getting her gallbladder removed and I was out picking up my MS3...;) Yes cars rule. :klavergreg:

Today I upgraded the exhaust on the STI with a 3" cat back...louder and a little more power...car needs an ECU mod...of course none yet just like the MS3...No one has a mod for the 2007 STI yet, not even XEDE as far as I know. I am still waiting on my parts for the MS3 (Who knows when the stuff will come in). The car (MS3) is resting comfortably in a heated garage and I continue to drive the STI (want to break it in).

Hope all is well with all members,

Joe

I'm in MA, if you need an extra pair of hands to help with working on the cars. I'm a Mech Eng too.
