Hey, I do not know much about brakes and wanted your guys input on what setup you think I should run. I am a "spirited" driver, but have never done auto-x. I want a brake that is not too expensive, has the same stopping power as OEM, but preferably less brake dust. Also I do not want noisy brakes. Any recommendations?

We've had good reviews from people here using the Hawk HPS. Anyone care to chime in?

-Gary

Yeah the HPS would meet the criteria, except they might dust a little more.

Alright thank you all for your input. However, I took off my wheels and saw there was plenty of pad left. I have ~28k miles, is this normal? I have never done auto-x or drag.

I have 31k on stock pads and they are 60% worn. For track days I use Hawk HP Plus pads, they have more bite than stock but also dust much more. They also squeak alot, they are not a street pad though.

HP+ is a street pad, I am using them. Hawk advertise them as street/auto-x pads, they offer better braking performance when cold and doesn't need to be heated up to work like track pads.

Axxis has the XBG Metalmasters available. But they show the same part number for the MZ3 as the MS3. I have them on my 911 and they work great for light track duty and street use.

Do not use these pads ever, I have blown up a set of calipers on the track with the metal mashers (in my e30), because they overheated and fell apart.

I also have to say that the hawk hp+ seem to work well for track use.

A question related to this thread, where can I get the stock rotors at a good price, or can I get some of the options listed here that will run less and give me better performance. My car is at the dealer for a shock and they told me i needed to do my brakes and quoted me nearly $800!!! For that price I know I can do them several times.

The best slotted rotors are the DBA 4000, PM us or look in our bendor section for more info.

I worked with a guy at a BMW dealer that if he had to take a wheel off a car he would tell them they needed brakes...............

speed3nick , i'm running the DBA4000 series rotors with hawk HP+ pads with SS goodridge lines, with motul RBF600 fluid ( i'm impressed with the set up) Now i'm looking to make a jump to Carbotech or hawk HT10 pads... really debating whether or not to get on the ban wagon with xp10's or ht10s

How come 08 ms3's hawk hp+ mfr# is HB519N.682 and 07 ms3's is HB549N.702? The former is cheaper too.

EDIT: looks like they have the mz3's front listed as the speeds.

All speed3s are HB549

Just wanted to suggest another place to look for decent prices on brake parts..Tripoint Engineering. I called up Jeff Wong and he hooked me up. I got some HP + (F&R) and 2 bottles of Motul RBF 600 for a price I couldn't beat anywhere else.

Time for brakes.

So I ordered a set of HPS from PG, but they take 2 weeks so I try to cancel them. I order them from HawkPadsDirect instead. But they both end up shipping. Instead of two pairs of sets, look what I got.

Make sure you order the right parts. Check post #1 to make sure.
