I was flipping through my owners manual the other day and noticed a switchblade key/remote deal. So I called up my dealer and they said they'd sell me one, cut it and program it for 250.

Yikes.

Any idea how I can get it cheaper?

(I have a 2009 Mazda3 i Touring Value)

If you're in Canada, get it here:

http://www.trademotion.com/partloca...fo&PartID=376243&siteid=214264&catalogid=4010

Almost half the price, and they will cut it to your car and assemble it for you if you provide your VIN # and your shipping address matches your customer information @ Mazda.

The programming is super easy and takes about 5 minutes total. Here are the two guides you need:

Remote: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=8247.0

Enjoy!

Yeah, no one is quite sure why this procedure only works on 04-06 models in the US but still works on newer ones in Canada... but it has been tried and proven many times unfortunately.

Because the US KEU was changed in 2007...... it has something to do with them adding TPMS onto all models. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense since there were '04-'06 models in the US with TPMS and the old KEU.

Some Canadian models actually come with a flip key, so their electronics are designed to work with it. Someone tried putting a Canadian KEU in but it didn't play nice with the PJB and didn't work. I'm sure if you went through and replaced a whole lot of expensive computer components you could get it to work, but at that point it's really not worth it.

I paid $75 for mine. Its half of Mazda6 (it has the trunk release button) and half of Mazda5

I really wish we could get it working for the 07+, even if that means swapping out the KE module for another one. I just don't know who to talk to in order to figure it out.

Probably some Mazda engineers in Japan. I know we had Jason at Montgomery Mazda work with Mazda corporate to explore all the options, and they weren't able to come up with anything.

We actually tried that already. Jason got someone to order the Canadian KEU and flip remote, however the US Mz3 wouldn't recognize it.... probably means the PJB would need to be replaced as well and that's just prohibitively expensive.

I've suggested it before but nobody said anything about taking the module from an 04-06 GT and see if that works. Or even one that doesn't have TPMS. I'd rather have a flip key then TPMS.

Wait, the switchblade ISN'T used on all Mazdas?? The 08 Mazdaspeed3 at the dealer used a regular key but a lady I work with has a 05? Mazdaspeed MX-5 with the switchblade key.

I wish they'd just stick with some good and use it across the board. Hopefully the 2010 Mazdaspeed3 uses a single fob with keyless ignition and keyless entry. RF FTW.
