I searched the forum and did see all the complaints about the weak A/C system but did not see anything concerning putting one in. I drive a 06 Mazda 3 that was originally purchased up north. The car did not come with an A/C system from the factory. It does have the holes in the firewall for the A/C lines and what I think is a pressure sensor connection. The radiator assembly has the notches to mount the condenser.

If that is really a pressure sensor connection then I'm assuming the rest of the electrical is in place too. If I pull all the A/C components out of a wrecked 3 can I expect them to hook up and work correctly in this car?

I am in a very similar situation. My girlfriend just bought a Mazda3 with no A/C, from a shady dealer. Were you able to install a cooling system in your 3?

Please let me know of any advice that you have on this unfortunate situation.

Thanks,

Besides all the hardware and the A/C button itself, the A/C works with the ECU to cut the compressor at high engine temps, high throttle opening and when the evaporator sensor thinks it's about to freeze. It also raises the idle speed. I would hope that the ECU program would be able to take those inputs whether the car shipped with A/C or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it had to be reprogrammed.

If all the wiring is there, though, you may be ahead of the game.

In a perfect world you'd be able to have access to the wrecked 3 after your initial pull so you could go back and get stuff you find out about later.

Don't take this as an insult, but why would anyone in Fresno buy a car without A/C? I live in Sac; I made sure that every car I considered (I was shopping in the Bay Area) had A/C... 95 with no A/C is OK... 110 with no A/C, screw that.

...now if they had just set up US cars to be able to enable DRL...

Thanks for your advice. My girlfriend went out on her own to get this car, thus the lack of A/C. The salesman showed her the heater was working and neglected to show her the A/C.

So your A/C is now functional? Did you install it yourself or go to an A/C specialist?

I went to a pick-n-pull to see if they had any 3 parts, but found nothing. Where would you suggest looking for the unit?

Thanks again for the direction on this.

You could always try ebay or Craigslist for ac units. I've found all sorts of stuff that people have pulled from wrecked cars and stuff. Try google too. Sorry if this advice seems really a no brainer and you've tried it already..
