Your clutch was squeeking from a loose shifter cable? Thats great news that it is not the clutch master cylinder.
Manual Mazda 3 clicking/squeaking noise: FIX
I went to the dealer and they finally figured out that the squeaking/clicking noise is coming from a loose shifter cable. After they restored it to spec, sound was gone and shifting was noticable smoother. If you have been having problems with pedals/clutch squeaking, and tough shifting you might wanna get your dealer to check it out.

Do you know exactly were the loose shifter cable is? cause sometimes is a little hard to put the gear in fifth.
