What is the best way to to connect different sized speakers wires? I will be connecting 16 gauge speaker wire to the head unit to amplifier. Then from amplifier back to speaker wires near HU. The problem is that the wire harness for the amp uses a much smaller wire than the 16g, and I'm assuming the wires out of the head unit are the same way. Will the differing sizes of wire make crimp connections to the smaller wire fail? Isthere a better way to connect the wires?

Also is it OK to use the existing factory wiring, or should new wires be run from the amp directly to speakers? It seems easier to use the existing wire.

One more thing... I'm putting the ring terminal on the power cables. I'm cranking them down and they squeeze the wire, or so it seems. Then I'm able to pull it right off. Obvisouly I don't want this to come apart and short out. Any tips on how to crimp the ends on?

Thanks, this will be my first time doing this.

Red butt connectors is what you need. Crimping larger wire to smaller dont make a difference.. unless its power. Been crimping to factory wire for the last 6 years, no problem with that.

Use the factory wire. Only time I dont is: Multi-component sets or VERY high powered components. The 16 gauge that is typically ran in all vehicles is more than plenty for amplifiers to send power down.

You need an insulated crimper. The better ones are made by ChannelLock, Klein Tools, Snap-on, Matco, and Mac tools. If you take a look at my website, I have a picture of all the tools needed to self install everything. In the picture, the crimpers with blue grips is a ChannelLock brand crimper. About $15 at Home Depot.
