Like many people, the fake CF dash strip was really turning me off. I went by a local auto accessories shop and picked up a Foliatec CF Carstyling Designfilm kit and installed it over the dash strip.

After about 20 minutes of careful application here's what the finished product looks like:

I think it looks much better than that fake stuff. sure its not a drastic change like aluminum finish or anything but it is a nice suttelty. Everyone has a different taste.

How much did that stuff cost you? is it like a giant sticker or did you use a heat gun to apply it?

It's basically a 20"x20" sheet of shelf paper. It cost me $60 CND for a 20"x20" sheet, so that's about $5 US? You can use a heat gun/hairdryer to apply it curved surfaces, but on the dash strip I didn't have to.

I bought it from an import auto accessories store/tuner shop, not a big box store like Pep Boys or anything like that. I'm sure you guys in California would be able to find it, it's from a German company called Foliatec (www.foliatec.com).

I doubt whether or not I'll be doing any more parts because I like the interior the way it is, I just didn't like the really fake looking "CF" accent strip.

If a tiny different of shade is so different, that you go from hate to love, after you make it like .2 shades darker... you prolly have OCD.

Are you going to say that a custom car builder has OCD because he wants to use 6 spoke rims instead of the more common 5 spoke rims? It's not about having OCD, it's a matter of personalizing your vehicle to the way your personal tastes. If something just doesn't look right to one's eye and they are able to do something about, they will, and I did.

Judging from that talk lately about CF dash kits I thought there was some interest on the subject so I thought it in the best intrest of the forum members to share what I've done. Instead of going out and paying an exhorbitant amount of money on a full (simulated or real) CF dash kit I thought I'd share a cheaper alternative, especially to those people who only wanted a few pieces instead of the entire kit. And no, it's not a matter of one or two shades, the pictures look lighter than they are because I had to use a flash to take the pictures. Couple that with the glossy coating on the film and I can see how you can come to that assumption but I reassure you it does have the same black colour and pattern that real CF has.

It looks like it fits in better. Personally, I would go lighter, have it match the glovebox handle.
