Anyone buy the latest issue?
They have compact car shootout (4 door), with the Lancer, Focus SVT, Sentra Spec V and Subaru RS. The 3 didn't make the cut because it wasn't out yet.

Anyhow, M/T got the Lancer a 6.9 to 60mph and 14.9 in the 1/4!!!!
Something is wrong here----only 162hp does not = 14.9 for a 2800lb car.
It just doesn't make any sense. Anyone else agree here?

I read alot of car magazines and have for years---and those times are so far off what it should do with that hp.

Still--when I do look for a new car I will look at the Ralliart, in addition to the 3 of course

doing some research, I found out that that 6.9second record is a typo. I'm not sure how fast the Lancer Ralliart is, but it's about the same.

Ah! here it is:

Top speed : 130 mph(estimated)
0-60 mph : 7.4 sec.(manual), 8.0 sec.(auto)
0-¼ mile : 15.7 sec @ 89.0 mph(manual)
60-0 braking distance : 135 ft
200 ft skidpad : 0.79 g

As I'm sure many of you know, the numbers represent the "best" times of their runs and they're probably done by professional drivers - not your typical consumer. So yeah the numbers are probably attainable but in street/daily use maybe not, IMHO. Drivers make a HUGE difference on the numbers. Car and Driver are notorious for their "favorable" numbers... ;)

I dunno how reliable this site is, but here's some comparable numbers:
(from the same site that's linked above)

Lancer Ralliart:
------------------
Top speed : 130 mph(estimated)
0-60 mph : 7.4 sec.(manual), 8.0 sec.(auto)
0-¼ mile : 15.7 sec @ 89.0 mph(manual)
60-0 braking distance : 135 ft
200 ft skidpad : 0.79 g

Mazda 3s (GT in Canada):
-------------------------------
Top speed : 118 mph(electronically limited)
0-60 mph : 7.5 sec.(manual), 8.0 sec.(auto)
0-¼ mile : 15.7 sec @ 89.0 mph(manual)
60-0 braking distance : 125 ft
200 ft skidpad : 0.80 g

Both cars are about even in this case...

Who cares?
They're not meant to be drag cars, they're fun enough to toss around.
I had to do this brake + avoid on the hiway cause some idiot didn't signal and 2 cars almost changed lanes into each other.
I tell ya, the car feels planted at those speeds 8)
