Ok so I want to swap my 2006 Mazda 3 2.3l n/a. Love this car, but would love to squeeze more power out of it. So I have a couple of options:
1. Turbo it. Can’t really do that cause the block isn’t strong enough.
- I could do a block swap with the speed 3 block and then turbo it, but idk how reliable that would be.
2. Mazda Speed 3 swap it. I would also basically need the whole front end from the car and it would be more time and money and I could be spending that time and money elsewhere.
3. K swap it. This is cheap-ish, and can reliably make some power. This is what I actually want to do. I specifically have been looking at a K24a2 engine. Now I would also need a couple of new things as well.
  • ECU, Transmission, better flywheel and clutch. Those are kind of the main things. I would also get a better suspension, and a performance exhaust to compliment my swap.
  • Now I have heard that I would need to convert to RWD if I K24 swap, but idk how much that Is true. I have thought about converting to RWD (just so I can do some mild drifting as well). How hard would that be on the Mazda 3? Still considering if I want to do it.
4. For anyone telling me to buy a Mazda Speed 3, I agree. But finding them is hard. If I find one, I will just buy it and call it a day.
  • For those telling me to buy a civic, I also kind of agree. The only problem is that civics are usually abused by stinky teenagers.
  • If there is another car that is more worth my money, please tell me as well I will take that in consideration.

So these are just my thoughts for now. I want to make around 300-400 hp. Something fast, but doesn’t need to beat hellcats in a race (just all of my friends’ NPC cars). Any suggestions would be great. Anything I need to add or remove would be good to know (p.s. I would be turbocharging the K if I put it in). I know making the 2006 Mazda 3 2.3l n/a is kind of annoying to make fast, but I want to anyways. The main reason is that this is my first car and it’s sentimental to me so that’s why.
Thanks for your input and help.

Agreed, not worth getting K24, your ecu, loom, engine mounts, and you have to pay for a tune. Nothing will line up including transmission, you'll be in too much of a hastle. 2.5L swap is the way to go, they can hold a fair amount of power on stock internals and have no oil consumption issues like the 2.3L's do.
