if you go to their website, under the section where they state which cars they need for testing, the 3 is listed, so if someone in that section of California is willing to miss their car for a week.....then take one for the team!

I highly doubt they will make a drop in filter for the 3. The stock one is suppose to be a high flow cotton filter that does not need to be replaced.

I'm on their "we'll contact you when we make one" list. Could be a month, could be a year, who knows

umm... where EXACTLY did you hear that from?
I'm sure it is either in the manual or off a Mazda website. I'm pretty sure thats why there is not any replacement filters out!

Sure, you can do this with your furnace filter too, but a replaceable or cleanable one is preferred. I know people that clean their sparkplugs with brake cleaner and reuse those too. WHY! Spend a couple bucks, and get new stuff. They'll have to have at least factory replacement parts if worst comes to worst. I still believe K&N will make one though. I buy them more for the lifespan and cleanability of the filter. I really don't worry too much about the small increase in cfm's. That's what CAI's are for :D

Exactly! Why would you want to clean a dirty nonreusable filter in your car. That's like washing a dirty car without soap. I agree with fire76 about K&N. With as popular as this car is becoming and the potential it holds, there is no way K&N won't produce a filter or CAI/FIPK for it.

I am in the proces of making my own, using a smaller CAI and routing my own pipes, it seems to be working real well. I'll send picks when I am done...but to give you an idea, I worked over the radiator and placed the cone behind the grill. The distance is a little longer but the box isn't reducing the flow.

Either way, the car sound more aggressive and doesn't hurt the MPG.

ditto, man.

It's amazing that some people will spend so much money on a car, yet they won't spend money on maintenance parts.
