Yesterday I replaced the factory speakers, with my DLS UR6S speakers (quality brand in Europe) http://www.dls.se/english/speakers/ur6s.htm
At first, I thought it would be a big problem, since I didn't have an adaptor to fit the 6,5" speakers. So I called a couple of ICE dealers, with no result. Then I visited my Mazda dealer, and bingo... he had a Sony customfit-adaptor for Ford Mondeo, which they use for Mazda 626.
The installation:
It was pretty easy. The biggest problem, was to adapt the tweeters to the "hole" in the tweeter pod, since you have to remove the grille and the plastic behind it, to get the new tweeters in (the DLS tweeters are BIG...). I used a solder iron to melt a nice round hole 8) Quite effective, when you don't have the right tools...
I hid the crossovers in the doors, packed in foam so it's sitting tight.
The music sounds brilliant, perhaps even better than in my old Peugeot 206, which had great sound capabilities. So far I'm using the original Mazda radio, which does a great job, driving the DLS', but I can't wait getting my DLS amp in the trunk together with the 12" sub.
