Just got my MazdaSpeed CAI!

Guess I am the first on the board!

Here are the pix everyone wants:

The intake is very well made, the two pipes are TIG welded and the welds are of excellent quality and appearance (there is some minor over penetration, no big deal)
There are two silicone couplers: one 90*, one straight
Two MazdaSpeed die cut stickers (would look good on my toolbox ;-) )
Two bottles of cleaner for the filter (this is good for one cleaning at 20,000 miles if you follow the instructions)
One AEM dry-flow filter
One splash shield
Bolts, clamps, and hardware all packed neatly in Styrofoam popcorn with MazdaSpeed on the side of the box :p

The instructions are clear, and should be enough for anyone to follow. (Mazda wrote them for their own techs)
It is not necessary to remove the front bumper as with the CP-e CAI.

Not much else to say about it now... I paid $310 and picked up at Tonkin after work (guess I had to pay shipping too, not really bothered about it though)

I will be installing this Saturday at the latest. (and sometime after that my TurboXS race pipe and Hybrid BOV might actually arrive)

And I will leave you with a pix of intakes being loaded onto the UPS truck (one trip of many)

I go to africa every year on archaeological expeditions in the middle of nowhere and we had to use duct tape to hold a blown tire together and it worked.

I think they use it in space...:)
Get a camera mount and mount it in the middle of the car behind the front seat....so the intake shows seat of your pants gains?
Just recieved my MS CAI - The box is staring at me in my office as I type this.. Now just waiting for the car
I posted this on the dyno thread, but I figured I would post it here as well. It is only my baseline. I will not have my CAI in till Wed. I figure I will give it a week or two then go pull it again. I do not have a scanner, so I had to type it in. Once i get a scanner I will actually post the graphs.

I need to get a scanner but I just did my baseline run on the MS3. Dynojet. It was in 4th gear, 93 octane, one massive fan in front(large enough that it was blowing a ton of air at the front of the car and over the TMIC). No scanner to post it, but here is what the numbers were:

1.) 9:29:22 am, 79.81 F. 30.21 in-Hg, Humidity 81% Max Power = 245.60 Max Torque = 266.36

2.) 9:30:35 am, 80.65 F. 30.21 in-Hg, Humidity 80% Max Power = 229.64 Max Torque = 251.69

3.) 9:44:51 am, 81.99 F. 30.23 in-Hg, Humidity 71% Max Power = 249.45 Max Torque = 263.32

I had them do the first two pulls back to back so I could get a good idea of how bad heatsoak is... pretty bad as you can see. The biggest obstacle this car has though is the A/F ratio. It is ugly. Cannot wait for PNP from Cobb or CPE.
[/quote]

When its still cool, there is not much drivetrain loss at all. Pretty wild actually. 14-18 whp and 14-17 wtq loss. Compare that to some other fwds, and not to mention awds .

Me too. I am trying to hold off my purchase until I see some dyno results from both intakes. From the looks of the pictures from the last page it seems that it would be pretty hard to suck water into the engine with were the filter is located. The filter from both units (mazdaspeed/CPE) seem to be pretty well protected from the elements with the wheel shroud and plastic cover underneath the car.
Yeah both intakes look great i look forward to seeing some before and after user dynos of each intake.
As long as you use common sense, water hitting your filter and the possibility of hydrolock are remote if even that. You really have to be trying very hard to do something that stupid. If you see a puddle... avoid it. It is really pretty simple. If you can't, take it very slow if it looks like it has some depth. Like I said, common sense. Since it rains down here all of the time, and I'll remind you I live in a tropical/subtropical climate zone, this is something I have dealt with on all of my vehicles over the years. Never one problem. Not even a wet filter. So if you get one, just remember that you have it. Thats all.

Yes.. I may be the first Canadian to open a MS CAI box  Just need the car :(

I purchased from the U.S. (Tomkin group buy)

Looking forward to the "after" dyno's :klavergreg:
Give me a week or so, then we will see after dynos, want the ECU to learn about the CAI before I test her. In the meantime, I posted my results from my baseline on the dyno thread, and a couple of posts ago on this thread.
I'm tempted to take Friday off from work if I get it delivered on Thursday. I will not be dynoing. I wanted the MazdaSpeed CAI. It looks better to me than the CP-E. The bottom line is that either is better than stock and that there si competition and alternatives. This forum rocks. My dealer would not even give me a $10 discount on it. I told them about CP-E selling one and the BS me all the way about warranty, etc. I'll be buying any future MazdaSpeed accessories from Tomkin going forward. I have not decided about the which exhaust to get yet, however.
WHERE IS MINE!!!!!
I have a very sick feeling that ups has lost mine(maybe just temporary) but it left colorado 2 days ago, and is supposed to be here tomarrow but it still hasn't shown that it has arrived anywhere. I would think for it to be delivered tomarrow that it should already be here... I'm gonna be sad if I have to wait longer now b/c of damn UPS :(
