Guess I am the first on the board!

Here are the pix everyone wants:

The intake is very well made, the two pipes are TIG welded and the welds are of excellent quality and appearance (there is some minor over penetration, no big deal)
There are two silicone couplers: one 90*, one straight
Two MazdaSpeed die cut stickers (would look good on my toolbox ;-) )
Two bottles of cleaner for the filter (this is good for one cleaning at 20,000 miles if you follow the instructions)
One AEM dry-flow filter
One splash shield
Bolts, clamps, and hardware all packed neatly in Styrofoam popcorn with MazdaSpeed on the side of the box :p

The instructions are clear, and should be enough for anyone to follow. (Mazda wrote them for their own techs)
It is not necessary to remove the front bumper as with the CP-e CAI.

Not much else to say about it now... I paid $310 and picked up at Tonkin after work (guess I had to pay shipping too, not really bothered about it though)

I will be installing this Saturday at the latest. (and sometime after that my TurboXS race pipe and Hybrid BOV might actually arrive)

And I will leave you with a pix of intakes being loaded onto the UPS truck (one trip of many)

With the way you are asking about hydrolock, I am a little concerned.... you didn't manage to do that already did you?!
[/quote]

No. I'm a neophite in these matters. I have not dones any performance mods to any of my cars yet. I'm an old fart, but never got to to it when I was young. My neighbors friend got his CAI in a Nissan Maxima that messed it up badly with water going up the intake. I do not know the details. I was concerned about it, but he must have done something bad driving wise or he may have taken the under cover or something... who knows.

yeah hydrolock is a fear but i have only seen 1 myself in 7 years of doing this and this is a rainy state. It can happen but just don't go into a gaint puddle and hit full throttle. If you fear you have gone into a big puddle let off the gas instantly coast to the side of the road and check it out. Its not very common though
so this mazda speed intake is how much and could you deliver to NC????

i was reading up on the risk of hydrolocking w/ a CAI... man... got me spooked... it says that anything above 5mph over a puddle can cause water to be sucked up... :eh:

thanks for the part number ill se if i can order my self from my dealer if not im in for sure
looks nice... warrantee info for the newbs in the aftermarket world.

a car manufacturer can in fact VOID a warrantee on specific PARTS of a car if they deem the aftermarket part to have played a part in the failure of that part/parts. NEVER can they simply VOID and entire warantee of a vehicle for simply placing an aftermarket part on it. this would be the equivalent of VOIDing the warantee for using oil/lubricant/coolant/water/brake pads/etc... you know where I am going with this... that is not of a mazda make or approved brand. here is my advice... dealers like to have our vehicles serviced there, so make friends with one of the service managers at your local mazdaspeed dealer, and I can promise you that there will never be an issue with warantee discussions. I have worked in and around the car business for a number of years and only ONCE have I seen a car not fixed for aftermarket (well kinda) parts. The kid had hacked up the shifter and other parts and then proceeded to bitch for 2 months that his car shifted harder than normal and he wanted a new trans. i personally told him to kiss my royal managing A**, and to take his piece of trash car with him.

nice story huh? haha!

I made nice with my service manager by bringing him donuts. He recently quit, so now I have to do it all over again.

One of my buddies hydrolocked his car. He has a Focus, and his CAI stretched pretty far down. He didn't even think about it and was tearing through puddles on purpose. Doh!
damn. i thought i could wait a year or two before starting to mod this car.
now i cant wait for the exhaust to come out

Hey Ron Tonkin....will this gb still be in effect in a few months? This is a sweet deal you have going.

I am sure I will be able to get one through my dealer in Canada, but I am all about saving a buck :)
My car is sitting at port right now so not quite ready to order ....
