i just thumbed through the owners manual and they're reccomending 5w-30 for the ms3. my last turbo, an '02 GTI, vw reccomended 5w-40. 5/30 just seems really light to me and i was wondering if thats what everybody is running and if there may be an alternative to the reccommendation?

I'm running what the manual says, if it breaks, their call!

Remember the standard 3 runs 5w20. Going with 5w30 seems good to me. I'm considering 0w30 though as it gets cold enough to make even 5 flow slow here at times.

Then by all means use what VW recommends. Why go with what Mazda says?

a 40 is a heavier oil when warm. I know I want a thicker oil so its harder to move through my lubrication system, including turbo!. Makes sense to me..
