I don't think I've seen this discussed yet, and not sure why. Seems it would be very easy to put two misters into the hood ducting and could help considerably with heat soak. Thoughts?

I'd be very interested if someone had either a DIY or an actual product that would do this. I think any TMIC could benefit from having some form of intercooler sprayer to alleviate some of the heatsoak issues.

I've been talking with a buddy and we might have a nice little project coming up here..... think "smart" sprayer, adaptive and programmable with LCD output and real-time data logging downloadable to PC! Water is my media of choice, but the controller could easily be used with any other setup.

This will still be a ways out and we need to do some data logging to determine how bad the heat soak gets and whether this venture is worthwhile, but it should be a fun little project.

I really don't want to go N20 or CO2, just water. I can always run an alky blend or ice... or both!

Besides, this is just a fun little project for me and a friend of mine. What can I say, when us engineers have free time we sit around and make their own toys!

Doesn't the EVO come with an IC sprayer? I wonder how much cooler than ambient you can get with water or water/alcohol. Down here in the swamps it is pretty humid in the summer. Probably have to spray so much water that it would not last very long.

just duct tape a big bag of ice on top of your intercooler when you go to the track

HAHA, goes back to the old school ideas of dry ice

I think the sprayer is more for cooling the intercooler after/during hard runs and combating heat soak. You're not going to get the super low temps you get with icing or Chryo sprayers, but the goals of each are somewhat different.

In the STi I used the sprayer while pushing it hard (think windy roads, full boost and not a ton of airflow) to keep things cool, otherwise the IC would heatsoak and power would start to drop off noticeably. If I was just cruising on the highway and the IC was getting good flow already spraying made no noticeable difference.

Icing/Chryo is generally used for icing up the IC while the car is stationary in preparation for a drag run.

quickest way to get kicked out of a drag strip.... ice bags. I had to run after some ricer in a supra who iced his intake and ran his a/c in the staging lanes THEN decided to run right of the groove, so my burnout was useless i spun through his water off the line wasting a perfectly good run on drag radials. Unless it's a shady backwoods track i would definitely avoid ice.i DO like the duct tape idea though very feng shue

Being that I work in IT we tried compressed air too for shits and giggles. Can in each hand hold up upside down, you can get the TMIC completed iced up in about 5 secconds :D
