It takes too much digging and effort to limit a search on this site. Make search more user friendly. For example, instead of forcing users to click a favicon in the search box, then selecting a different search engine, then selecting Advanced Search, then going to the Search in Forum(s) box, then figuring out what forum they were just on and going back to that Advanced Search page and looking through the options to find the forum they were just on and selecting, then executing the search. Holy cow! What a usability mess!

This would be a much better experience: add a search scope box next to the search box with a few - to -several search scope options. Possible options in the search scope box could look like this: Current Thread, Current Forum, Entire Site. Add a link near the search box for Advanced Search and display that link no matter what search engine is selected.

And consider only implementing one search engine for your own sake.

You could search within the forum itself like so:

And the same can be done within a thread if you are looking for a specific phrase or term. It'll say "Search this Thread" instead.

What key words were you searching for that didn't yield the results you wanted?

If there are issues with the search, we'll need to recreate it on our end and we can get that looked into.

We have more than 1 search engine (vB and google) because some users prefer one over the other so at least this way it gives them the option. Sometimes one works better than the other or vice versa, it depends on the person.

That's great, but it's not intuitive to have more than one search box on a page and to split functionality between search boxes. Users aren't going to think, "oh could there be a duplicate search box on this page I need to check 'cause they might not work the same?" No, instead they're gonna type into the first search box they find and be unaware of any others. Users are also not going to know that one search box offers different functionality than another search box. The current layout, with multiple search boxes that are styled differently and offer different functionality, isn't user friendly.

Have one search box on a page, have that search box appear in the same place on every page, don't force users to hunt for search functionality (like search scope since you have it and Advanced Search links that only appear after the users does something like changing a search engine).

Ok, if you can get others on board with this suggestion, it'll be easier to talk about it with the mods when there is a census for it as opposed to one person. You could start a poll as well if you'd like.

See if there are others like yourself that are finding the search function to be difficult to work with and we'll go from there.

Once again, what key words were you searching for that didn't yield the results you wanted?

Thanks,
Nate
