How does it work if I get a decent appraisal of my car for trade in against a new M3, but I'm told that there will be a waiting period of 1-2 months on the M3. In the meantime, I still need some form of transportation, so would the dealership agree to me using my old (trade in) car for that length of time knowing that I'll be putting on additional mileage on the vehicle? Or will they want to take possession of my old car on the same day it was appraised by the used car manager and the same day I sign the purchase agreement?

I guess what I'm asking is how does a trade in work if the new vehicle isn't on the lot when I need to trade in... :?

Shop around. I was told that there was a wait of 2-3 months at one dealership and I went to another and they said they'd have my car by the end of the week. It ended up taking 12 days, a whole lot better than 2-3 months. As for the trade in, talk to the sales manager, if they want your business bad enough, they'll work something out with you.

I've been waiting for mine since Feb21. Traded in my neon and I am still driving it. Put on about 4000km so far.

My dealer said that considering he can't get me my 3 right away, I can keep driving my trade in regardless of mileage and he will keep the deal as agreed the day I ordered.

Yeah, I was trading in my Celica about 7 weeks ago, and I'm still driving it around, waiting for my Mazda3 to show up. I had 95k miles at that time, now I'm at 98k. My dealer said that as long as I don't go over 100k miles, I'll still get the same trade-in value. He also said that if i was getting real close, to make sure I don't go over, and bring the car in and they'd give me a loaner.

I'm sure you can work this out with your dealer. Kinda cool that I can put a few more K on my car without being penalized in value.

Sucks to still be waiting though.

They'll let you keep yoru car but they will take mileaged based money off.
Not always true... my deal is staying the same regardless. I told them I put on about 3000Km per month and they said no prob. Just don't prop it up on blocks and put a brick on the gas pedal.

Actually, I live downtown but I bought at Brampton Mazda. Go figure? It was the first dealership I visited and I liked the salesman (Ronald) from the get go. I didn't get that used car salesman vibe from him. Nice guy interested in my business and treated me accordingly.
