I need help this car is starting to consume me in more ways than one.

I bought this car in November and have already spent about 3K in upgrades. Lets see it started with the Blizzaks, then it was tint, next up was the mazdaspeed CAI, next week the OZ Ultraleggera's arrive, oh and then there's all the Griot Garage car care crap. When is going to end? I know I will have to get the Cobb AP when it is ready...

I seem to be forgetting that I own a house that could use some upgrades as well!

And even though I don't make a lot of posts onn this forum i sure spend a lot of time reading all the others. I noticed I have spent over 4 days and 6 hours on this damn site :D

After modding my Protege5, I was looking forward to a done Speed3. Nope. This is gonna cost more to do stuff to, and this time I vowed to do it right, no ebay stuff. Takes longer to get the quality mods, but oh well. Think you got it bad with your Speed3? My wife has a CX-7, and once she heard a BOV, anything I get, she wants similar if possible, for her CX-7. Well. TMIC and CAI later, a BOV and intercooler hoses on order, she wants more...

The owner of a local tuner shop said it best, "speed costs money. how fast do you wanna go?" I've actually spent less modifying this car (so far) than I have my previous 98 Accord v6. I spent close to $3k on engine mods alone to get 198whp. So i'm not complaining about the speed3 :)

+1

The Speed was way cheaper to mod than the MZ3 and over all results much better. Better starting point.

I agree. I was already modding my '04 and planning for a turbo once I built up the drive line to what I felt would be acceptable when the speed was announced. I originally was just going to keep modding my '04 but figured up what I was going to spend at a minimum finishing it compared to what I would do with a speed. That's when I decided that if the dealer would give me what I wanted for trade then I would go for the speed since it would be cheaper overall, theoretically anyway .

I still sort of laugh AND cringe when I think about my flawless MZ 3 on a dealer lot. Full suspension, Lightened flywheel spec stage 2 clutch etc......... Someone is going to get in it and likely think all MZ 3's smoke tires like it does and handle perfectly. BUT.......

The Speed has SO much better grip. LSD is your friend!

We really have a great platform to play with. I am convinced Mazda really does pay attention after witnessing the design evolution of the 3. Keeps me wondering how competitive a 2 door coupe would be were Mazda to build one on this platform. Lose like maybe 450 pounds. Could you imagine? 300 HP and 2700 pounds. Yikes! I would find a way to buy one and have both cars.

Yeah, THAT's the right one. :) It's so true also. The other one is "Fast. Cheap. Reliable. Pick two."

Makes one wonder, because if we all see it, SURELY corporate marketing and merchandising does as well. Hey Mazda, if you build it, we will come. (Quite possibly literally) I would have two.
