When I was trying to purchase this car I went to two dealers. I wanted a Rally White Mazda3 and so I asked if they had any in stock. They said no and that the closest white mazda3 was 500 miles away which would have to be driven all the way with 500 miles on it so I declined. I went to another dealer and asked for same car and they said they'll get it for me for sure. Surely enuff, the next day they find a white mazda3 outta nowhere with 50 miles on it. and this leads to my paranoia: Im so serious when I say this--> What is the possibility that they got a 2.0 L White Mazda3 off the lot, changed some things except engine, and sold it to me as a 2.3 L. Sometimes I wonder if Im driving a 2.0 L M3 with changed parts. I know this sounds crazy, but is there some real solid definite way to check the engine to make sure its the 2.3L one? please solve this paranoia.

Keep in mind that all dealers are not created equal when it comes to dealer trades and relationships with other dealers they may need to get cars from... it's possible the first dealership was not on good terms with the second dealership and wherever it got the car... or maybe the second dealership had a car that the dealership WITH the white was willing to trade for, but the first didn't. There are a lot of factors, I wouldn't read too much into it.

That being said, now that you have that seed of doubt, you won't be sure until you check, so go ahead and make sure.

It could be a big possibility that the first dealer called the sond dealer, and the second dealer knew of someone that was interested or knew they could sell it and told the first dealer "no go." So the next closest was 500 miles.
http://www.fizzindi.demon.co.uk/vin.htm Here's a mazda vin decoder I found, not sure if it helps, but you could find what #'s correlate to engine and then compare your VIN with a 2.3's vin.

If the car is sold as new, it should be sold with a window sticker. The window sticker is the buyer's guarantee that the car is as described. The window sticker should list all the options as well as the VIN and MSRP.

The sticker can only be removed from the vehicle by the purchaser.

That said, there should be a sticker underhood that mentions the 2.3 emissions. Also, there are too many differences between a 2.0i and a 2.3s that it would not make any financial sense for the dealer to swap parts just to make it the color you want.

I am sure you would be able to tell the difference between the 2 and the 2.3 just by looking and driving the cars. I am 99% positive you are being completely paranoid.

I noticed over the months that most of you in the USA and in Western Canada have very few Mazda dealerships around. I personaly have one 5minutes away and the other around 12minutes(same owners). After those 2 the other 10 are either on or around the island of Montreal and they are max 20-25minutes away!

You went to Town North, too? They're nice folks, I worked with Gary. They also seem to have the best selection of Mazda3s in the DFW area, but of course it varies on exactly what you want.

Back to the topic, I'm fairly certain you're being paranoid. What you're afraid of sounds like good old-fashioned fraud, and no dealer is going to risk jail time to sell a car. But by all means, follow the suggestions made so far to allay your fears.

Maybe they took the 2.3L engine out and REPLACED IT WITH A 2.0L!

No, wait... the cost of labor to change the motors would make the whole conspiracy a lost cause.

Unless they're using south-american child slave workers.... Hmmmm. YES!!!! THAT MUST BE IT!!!

I dunno, we have 3 Mazda dealerships in Calgary, one about 20 minutes away and another about 10. I don't think we could really support another, maybe one more but that'd be it. I wouldn't call 3 too few at any rate, can't speak for BC anymore but I know Alberta has several.
