Any ideas on how to remove it for painting? I'm not up for masking the entire area to paint just that one little piece :lol:

I don't believe it can be removed. I wish mine was black like the newer models and not silver. Just random slab of silver placed in the cab.

yea, better to remove the whole glove box from a 3i model (with black handle) and swap it in.

there ya have it... go rent a mz3 with the handle black and swap the pieces.

Its not only 3i's that have the black handle, my 09 hatch does as well. I think they changed that with the 08.5+ models, but I cant be sure.

The problem with a swap though is that the keyhole won't match your key!

No, but if I needed to for some reason I'd be screwed.

Come to think of it the locking is probably the reason it's a PITA to remove--they don't want anyone to be able to get past that lock!

I'm in the process of trying to take it apart since I need to wrap it. I'll let you know if I figure it out. without gouging the shit out of it lol

You could just mask it and paint it by hand with a small brush.

HAHA!!!! I FREAKIN DID IT!!! I figured out how to take the whole assembly appart. I will note right now that I have a 2005 hatch and that whole panel peices is plastic welded in. I'll post pics when I get home from the shop. it was actually pretty easy to do but deff not for the faint of heart! I was sweatin bullets the whole time lol.

actaully bought the headunit from a NJ member here... for the week I had it installed was great. it sounded 10 ten times better than the stock HU

I can do that. but I will tell you this aint for the faint of heart. I explained to alec how to do it and he is going to just tape off the area and spray which I recremend mostly. mine's still sitting in peices since I haven't expoy it back together but it is now nicely wrapped with the peices being sprayed black mica.
