How to pass someone on the interstate in our ms3's

If your going to pass someone on the interstate with our cars (doing 75 mph in 6th gear), what gear do you guys drop down to? A friend of mine told me to drop down to 4th skipping 5th gear. Does anyone do that or do you guys just drop down to 5th. Sorry for the dumb question as I have only been driving a standard for a month now. I'm guessing I should be rev matching before letting the clutch out when downshifting from 6th to 4th or should I just drop the clutch immediatly? I'd like to get more input from you guys before trying it. I looked up shifting tutorials but non of them explain how to pass someone on the interstate (quickly). Oh and my friend can't show me since he's in Iraq now.

I was complaining to my girlfriend after having the car for a few nights back in december. She thought I was nuts. I told her the car is a blast, but not as much fun as I hoped sometimes... its like driving an auto on the highway, no freaking need to shift at highway speeds! Sixth is so much stronger than any top gear I have ever driven in before it is ridiculous.
i concur with the masses, just mash it in 6th.

Seriously though! I would prefer more top end in 6th gear and less torque. Would be nice to coast at 75 with only about 2500 RPM's. As it is, that is about 3000-3100 RPM's to maintain that speed for me.
Ahhhhhh you lucky MS3 guys... I want one badly. Then I can talk about shifting down on the Interstate... :x
i'm usually to lazy too shift outta 6th but if im trying to get the best acceleration out of the car from a 75 mph roll i'd def put it in 4th....it has great pull from there....5th you still gotta kinda wait for the car to build to peak power....

Setting MS3 "Egos" aside, 6th is a CRUISING gear, look at the ratio. Even in an 2006 STI, there's not much torque felt in 6th and that cars got a nice turbo.

For all those people passing in 6th... I wonder why you don't bother downshifting to make the pass quicker.

Maybe people don't realize the risk of driving side by side with somebody in a gear that doesn't allow an easy escape if needed...

I used to drive a sportbike that does 0-100mph in 6 seconds. Even then, bikers downshift to pass so that they are in powerband for safety reasons.

I don't think there is anything unsafe about it. I am about to trade in my 05 SP23 for a speed3, and the speed3 in 6th gear at that speed (65-75) has a LOT! more passing power than the regular 3 does in 3rd... so yea.

Why would you need to go to 4th in a Speed3 when you are doing 75 in 6th? In 6th at 75mph, you should be at about 3k rpm's and going down to 5th will put you over 4k where you get plenty of boost and the torque to go with it.
When I want to pass anyone on the freeway, i just press down on the little pedal to the right! 6th gear works just fine and little "Yoshi" moves out with a vengeance! I have never felt the need to downshift for additional acceleration...
You guys are right! The Speed3 boosts so high that when you mash it in 6th it's like an automatic -but it doesn't shift it sort of builds up the boost and it takes off -I know it's wierd. My last car was a turbo automatic and it was sort of like this too when it was in 4th -You pressed down on the gas and hold it just before it down-shifted and it just moves out...not much cars can just get up and go like this without making a huge effort i.e. major down-shifting.

The MS3 has pull in just about every gear -but I think that it's because of the 17PSI of boost -but that's just a guess of mine...sort of takes the fun out of driving on the interstate cause you can get everything done in 6th gear :)

Zoom...Zoom...Zoom (In 6th gear!)
Anything below 5th on an interstate is showing off or racing...

I am damn impressed with the passing power in 6th...

Tru-Boost and Lots-O-Boost shouldn't be too far from you. Let them take you for a ride on their 'closed course'.
