They could have been nice and hooked me up - I bought two cars from them.

Ends up, I had to buy new rotors and pads out of pocket.

I installed Brembo discs with AXXIS pads - night and day in terms of feel and wear. Also zero rust (and been through one winter). Far superior to the stock Mazada stuff.

Well mine died at 38K replaced with Exedy Clutch Kit. Now the ride is incredible!

My car passed the 72000 mile mark today and the clutch is still strong after some hard use and track days.

I am shocked after reading this. Seriously? 40k and under for some people? I have 93k on my Audi and its still on the stock clutch. Hopefully my wife will drive it well....

under a 900 for the clutch and labor is still good though. my brother drives a 99 A4 and it cost 2000+ for a new clutch and labor at around 80k miles.

I driven a clutch for 30 some odd years and have never replaced one. I driven 3 cars well over 130000 miles each.

^^^ Well for my part. This is my first MT car and I accept that I abuse the clutch the first 3 months. So I expected this to happen sooner than later.. :ugh: Almost 3 years and 38K + Miles and I payed my noobnes!

Now thats said. I will never go back to AT. I love MT!!! :klavergreg:

I was fortunate to learn on a Jeep at a place I worked one summer, so I didn't have to abuse my own clutch during the learning process.

I've only had to replace the clutch once in one of my cars, a 98 escort with 130k miles on it. I managed to get 4500 miles out of it slipping bad before it shot craps completely. You could dump the clutch at 5000rpm and not even break the tires loose, it was slip city.

Yeah that is the problem with clutches, a little bit like brakes. You can drive them fine for a long time, but abuse them BADLY just a few times and they are toast.

Either you wear the material off them really fast, or more likely you glaze the clutch material (a lot like what can happen to brake pads/rotors). A few high RPM smokey abusive clutch drops in a row can completely kill a brand new clutch or a lot of riding the clutch, using it to keep your car on a hill, etc can take thousands or tens of thousands of miles off a clutch.

mine sometimes does the same when taking off in first :? . I'm not sure if it's me or if it's the clutch being picky. Other than that my clutch isn't slipping or anything. I do tend to keep an eye on my clutch though, since my last car the clutch went out at 23k, but it was a tsb issue.

Wow this is begging to make me think now, i have about 2,3xx miles on my car. The rpms do drop very quickly, when I'm starting off from a standstill, my car almost always jerks a bit in 2nd or 3rd, i've tried letting out the clutch a little slower but the rpms drop too quick for that. I don't know if thats with me being a new driver or my car. I've only driven the car for about 150 miles and stalled a couple times when i first got the car, this car being my first standard car. As someone also said, in the cold the car acts up weird, mine does too. About 90% of the time i'm shifting under 3k on every gear I don't downshift much unless I have to, (still getting used to that)I don't know whatsup

Mine never slipped. However the clutch disc is completely gone (poof) @34K miles.

manny and company - if the clutch is shuddering at low RPMs as you take off, you aren't giving enough throttle. Rev slightly (1200 RPMs is plenty) as you take off and let the clutch out at a moderate, smooth pace. That should help.

If the RPMs drop as you let the clutch out, that's a good thing. Means you aren't slipping.
