My boyfriend and I are getting an apartment together at some point in the near future. He thinks we should split all bills and rent 50/50, and I think we should do it by income percentage. He makes more than I do, but he also has more debt.

How do you non-married folks do it?

We just combined as soon as we moved in together.

I did many things wrong. Not having to fight over who was paying what bills was not one of those things.

That's why you figure out a dollar amount instead of fighting over bills.... go over a budget, agree on a number, and direct deposit that number into a "household" account.

By income is stupid. You're not married, his extra income isn't yours. Two people, shared expenses=equal distribution. When you have roommates, be it a BF/GF/Friend, you don't live up to the higher income, the higher income slums it down so the other one can afford half the bills.

That would also work.

Uh, no. Let him sign the lease alone, considering he has a higher income anyway, and she pays her rent directly to him. Co-signing can get nasty in a breakup.

Yeah, one's parents could end up paying 2 rents for him for a year. :lmao:
