I stumbled upon this link (http://www.aaroncake.net/Circuits/beepcancel.asp) while searching for horns/alarms. I've been wondering since I got my 3 if there was a way to cancel out the 'beep' from the horn. I've heard on threads there isn't a way, just don't double tap the lock button -- need better info than that!

The other part of my curiousity is regarding the flip side, when you unlock the car is there a way to add a faint 'beep' (like a electronic beep, not an all out horn blast). It's tough to explain, but the beep I'm looking for is somewhat of a kid toy beep; lock car -- 1 beep.....unlock the car -- 2 beeps, all the while retaining the parking light flash.

My friend has this on his Toyota and I've heard it on other cars as well. Not sure if it's from an aftermarket alarm (Viper, Python, etc) or if it's just their stock set-up.

So, anyone that can chime in on both the validity of the process in that link as well as the certainty if a 'beep' function is feasable with a MZ3 would be EXCELLENT!

I am 99.99% sure I saw something in the manual about being able to disable the horn beep when setting the alarm...

I could be wrong... but I don't think I've read that many car manuals lately to have gotten it confused. I'll go grab mine out of the car and take a look, I'm driving an 07 ms3 tho.

On the PJB, connector J-04, pin N (black wire). This is output from the OEM theft-deterent system to the horn relay. Goes to ground when active.

It's nice to get use out of the wiring manual!

do you have the dealer install Karr alarm?
[/quote]

Yeah, default with the GT trim. I'm not saying I've changed mine, I just thought I read it. But I'm flipping through the manual now and I don't see it, so I guess I could be wrong. =\

If so, I'm embarrassingly mistaking it for my old PT Cruiser...

I thought that I read it in the manual too...:dunno:

Sounds to me like you could combine the circuit from your OP with this knowledge of which wire goes to the horn and get the results you're looking for. :)

Ok, so if you do have the delaer install Karr alarm system, you can disable it as follows:

All credit for this goes to gidgeyy found here http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=119782.msg2714344#msg2714344

- key into ignition
- turn to ON
- turn back off
- push little button behind blue alarm light by your leg area 3x

you will hear 2 soft horn beeps confirming programming.

I have verified that this works and was sooo happy when I found out how to disable the horn honk, so now if you 1 button press will flash the lights and 2 presses will flash lights and honk.

I have this already -- no 'Karr' alarm but lights flash and honk yada yada. What I was wondering was if there was a way to get the Toyota 'chirp' when locking/unlocking the door using the keyfob.

What I've gathered would be to buy the Toyota unit, dismantle it, get the wiring diagram from Toyota, match it up to a 3 and have at it. Sounds like a lotta work, but come on, that chirp is SOOO much better and it's a decent mod.

Cut the line, use it to drive a relay, and then hang your noise maker of choice off the of the switched side of the relay.....

Edit, sorry, I think the OP wants a beep on unlock, not a quieter on lock.... so just needs to hang something off the of unlock side of door motor relay...
