Hello,
I currently own a 2006 Mazda3 GT w Navi which I'm selling. I found a potential buyer so now I'm dealing with the decision on which car to buy next. I really like the new 2010 Mazda3... but I figure for the price of a new 3 + around $2-3K I could buy a used 2008 G35 sedan (w 16K miles) from a private seller (I don't have to pay sales tax that way).
I've been thinking about this for days and can't make my mind up... Having a brand new car is awesome since you know your car from the inside out... at the same time I think the G35 is a great car, much more refined... but it would be used :-/ Any input?

It depends on what you want and what you think is best for your driving style, obviously if you favor high speeds the G35 is the better choice. Otherwise save some money (maintenance, fuel, insurance, etc.) and go with the new 3.

Very true - I'm leaning towards the 3. It's hard to deal right now with the model just out :(

Oh but the G35 is oh so sexy. I'd probably go with that. LOL.

My bad. >_< I'm not a huge fan of the new 3 though... so it makes my decision a bit biased.

Well, if we compared new with new, I wouldn't be having a tough decision to make... but it's new vs used, that's my main problem. It seems like the G35 seller has been trying to sell it for like 4 months and he got it in May 2008. 16K miles in 7 -8 months is a whole lot - which makes me wonder what he did to that car :-/

Also, I wonder if my insurance would be a whole lot more expensive going from a Mazda3 to a G35...

[/quote]He did what most people do - drive it. Which means he's probably like most of the other drivers out there and didn't follow the proper maintenance schedule.

Buy new or go home, unless its for recreation purposes (Jeeps, quads, etc).

That is incorrect. You will have to pay taxes on it when you go to the DMV to register it. The tax will be based on the selling price listed on the title.

I think if you can afford the Insurance the G35 checks out, I'd go with that. More power and more luxury = :p

I live in GA... no sales tax on Private sales - That's a huge reason why I'm considering the used G35 from a private seller.
