I thought I had a great shop to take my car to when in need of a cheap repair or to get my rebuild done at. But I had a bad experience with them lately. I took the car their to get a CV boot repaired until i got the rest of the parts for my tranny sway and in the process of the car being their someone managed to dent my side skirt and dent in part of the frame and piece of the door and piece under the door. along with some chips and a little permanent blue marker to fill in the paint. they wouldnt take it to carstar where i wanted to take it because he didnt want to file a claim so someone half assed it at sammies body repair i think so im pissed.

Help me find a shop in the tampa bay area that will do engine/tranny work and is reputable and that i can trust my car with

FORD/Mazda experience would help for obvious reasons.

There are probably not 1000 people in Tampa all with Mazda3's who are all looking for custom engine/tranny work who are reading this forum at the same time to give you immediate answers...

Just curious....but why did you let someone damage your car without filing a claim with your or their insurance? If you don't go through proper channels, and you let some shady person steer you away from reporting the damage to your vehicle, what else is there to expect but crappy results?

You might have some luck calling or talking to local dealerships and asking some of the techs if they have any outside non-warranty work shops that they recommend for that sort of thing. Some dealers might not give you any answers, but some honest technicians or service managers might direct you to a local place that does good work.....they might have some recommendations from other customers who have had performance/mod work done elsewhere...

Is your car an '08? What did you do to your engine/tranny that needs non-warranty work on such a new car?

Wow lots of questions to answer.
K first there is nothing wrong with the car. I need a shop cause im retrofitting a mazdaspeed 3 tranny to my MZ3. I need a shop for engine work because I would rather the shop than me put in my internals.

I figures calling around a couple shops that do custom work might have a clue where to point me in the right direction so im going to do that tomorrow. But didn’t think about talking to some of the techs. That is a good suggestion thank you.

The agreement was to go through carstar who is reputable but without filling a claim that wasn’t going to happen. He wanted to do it cheaply and without filing a claim so I said id let him o through his people and if I weren’t satisfied then we would go through mine
Unfortunately when I got the car back and it wasn’t done satisfactorily I didn’t want to deal with bitching and telling him it was unacceptable and having to go through that process so I told him fuck it I don’t care.

Im still debating whether I should just file a claim and say the hell with it and get it fixed to new and say the hell with him to.

Your best bet would be to ask the guys at tamparacing.com in the Mazda section. They should be able to point you to a reputable shop.

what kind of work did they do for ya :)

They've replaced my radiator on my previous altima, in addition to brakework, and both CV axles. I know several people at work and friends who have used them and they all say the same thing to the quality and service. i'd recommend em in a heartbeat.

they even told me that if I wanted, I could buy parts elsewhere and they'd only charge the labor to do whatever work it was. Radiator for example, their distributor quoted the unit at $80 more than I found at a part store so I bought the parts and brought em in. They didn't have an issue with that at all, since they recommended me doing that in the first place.
