alright, so we've had our 07 hatch for about 5 months now, and my dad, who is the primary driver of the car is getting bored of it. This is mainly due to the fact that he saw an Audi A3 at the car show a few weeks ago. so in the last month there has been a lot of researching on the the a3, the 5 door gti, and the mazdaspeed 3. personally, i think the a3 is a nice car, but it's rediculously expensive for it's size and it dosn't offer much more than the speed 3 does plus, it cost a lot more to maintain. as you already know i'm all for the MS3 but my dad is set on getting the A3 s-line. what do you all think the ups and downs are of the cars mentioned and which do would you get if you could(being as unbiased as possible)?

4. audi .. blah, not europe's best unless its a A8. Id rather get a BMW 3, M3, 5, M5......

If you guys plan on doing anything to the car the WRX is the way to go, The speed 3 will have limited aftermarket support due to the low production cost.

plus AWD is fun

how are the wrx's quality wise. i've always loved them also, but i've heard that they are a vehicle that can easily be broken into because of the frameless door glass. also, they seem kinda tight in the back seat.

The back seat is tight compared to the 3, but i wouldn't think its tighter then the GTI.

I personally have never sat in the back of the Audi.

Not about the breaking in, but hell, anybody can break into a car. But the glass thing could make it easier. I frequently lurk the nasioc forums...and see plenty of WRX's breaking the 60K mark with no issues.

alright so i priced out a wrx, and it was 35 grand CDN with no leather or small creature comforts like the mazda has. my dad wants something that's more upscale, or at least pretends to be. so it's either the GTI, Audi A3, or the Mazdaspeed 3.

If your dad gets a new car, would you get the MZ3? +1 for you then! Or is this going to be a trade-in? Man, that would be quite a hit in depreciation just from being bored with a car! Is he bored with the way it drives, or more with the interior and exterior "image"? I don't see the GTI or A3 as being any funner to drive than the MZ3.

it would be a bonus for me but it will most likely be a trade in. it's paid off already so the main thing we're losing is depreciation cost. i'm not too sure what he's bored with but he likes the look of the A3 alot and the fact that it's an audi whatever that's supposed to mean. i keep pushing the speed 3 on him and saving some money and not loosing any interior volume but he likes the a3 that much.

well seeing that your dad is the owner of the 3 and is the one most likely to be picking out the replacement for the 3, which one does he like?

this seems a bit redundant(as i've specified his liking a number of times already) but he's all for the audi A3

i'm not completely sure yet, we'll know in a month or so. the mazda has to go in for repairs first(i got lightly rear ended about a month ago but the entire rear bumper has to be replaced) so we'll hopefully come to a decision when that's done.
