Hey Everybody,

I've been lurking for a few days after being through some craziness with my car issues.

Up until 2 weeks ago, I had no thoughts of a new car on my mind. I had a 2002 VW Passat 1.8T 5-speed, Lether, etc. I brought it to the shop to fix an intermittant chattering noise which was believed to be a throwout bearing. Well it turns out that the crankshaft is bad so a new engine or short block was needed. So quick, fast & in a hurry I had to decide on what to do.

I always liked the Mazda3 & 6. I've always liked the 626 & Protege so this is no suprise. In deciding on my budget and the desire to have a new car (I've always brought used cars but after this last incident I decided to try something different) I looked at the Mazda3 again.

I test drove 2 on Saturday along with a Mazda 6. The first one was a 5-speed and loved it. I was shocked how it accelerated and how fun it felt. The 6 felt kinda lumbering and clumsy to me. It felt bigger than my Passat which it probably was, not sure but even with the 5-speed I wasn't sold. I then got to drive a GT 5 dr, but automatic. I just drove it so I can see how the leather felt :)

Well, anyway I decided on a GT with Bose/Moonroof, Sirius, Wheel Locks & Floor Mats. I wanted either 4 or 5 door but they could only locate a 4 door in Sunlight silver quickly so I agreed to that. It didn't have Sirius, so they installed it. Also, thanks to this forum I realized the 6CD changer doesn't play MP3's so I am having that changed out as well. the car will be ready for me to pick up tomorrow, and now I'm getting excited :)

Now I can send the sloooow Focus (with the 2.0 regular engine) back to the rental agency :)

I'm looking forward to participating on this forum. I'll be missing my Passat but I'm excited for the new change the Mazda will bring! :)

2002 Passat needs new engine already? that sucks...

Welcome!

What's funny is my 94 4runner blew a head gasket and I had 1 day to decide on a car similar to you.

I was going to get the new Civic like my sister, but they weren't easily available at the time so I got my next choice which was the mazda3... My friend had an 03 MSP that was awsome and my aunt just let me drive her 05 Mazda6... So I decided to take a Mazda3 for a short test drive, and decided the looks and car suited me more than the civic. :)

I'm pleased with my decision, only sometimes I wish I got a 5sp manual or fixed my 4runner to wait a year and a half for something like the MS3. heh

I just picked it up today. I've only driven it one mile to a buddie's house so far, but i'm liking it. I have to get used to the acceleration, as it accelerates different than the Passat, but so far I like what I am seeing along with how quiet it is :)

I think a road trip is in order for tomorrow :)

Congrats on the new car! I was in a similar situation when I got my '04 3s. I've mentioned this before, but my '94 Escort saved up all it's problems and hit me all at once. Fortunately (at least, in this case), I still live with my parents so I had something to drive to work, but I had to find myself a car quickly. Wasn't excited about it until I saw the Mazda 3 hatch. Enjoy!

Hey Everybody, 1 more thing...

I don't know what I did with my glovebox. It seemed to be working fine, now when I go to close it (after opening to take the manual out) it seems like it won't close with normal effort. I have to pull the latch to push it closed. Is this normal? or did I jam it up in some way?

Thanks!

Oh man, that sucks a bit :( It's closed, I just have to make sure it closes. I'll get it checked out at the first oil change or something like that.

I am enjoying the car more and more. I still have to get used to the clutch, compared to the VW it doesn't need as much effort. It's just fun to drive, acceleration is nice, radio is nice...I'm havin fun :)

I swore when I first got the car, there was an auto lock feature as you drove off, but since it doesn't seem to be happening anymore, I don't know if I'm still confusing the old car/rental car with the new 3.

So does anyone know if the '07's have auto locks? or was it just my imagination :)

No Autolocks on the Sport I don't know about the GT.

OK, thanks...I tried searching but couldn't find anything. It could very well be that I am still thinking I'm driving the Passat :)

What happened to the WV?

After replacing the clutch to fix what they thought was the throwout bearing, they discovered the crankshaft was bad and that it needed the engine replaced :(
