I'm wondering what you folks think of this idea. And whether it's feasible or not.

Get a GX trim MZ3 (yes, you heard me right... a GX... hehehehe) and install an aftermarket system in it.

I dunno how it would work. Would I have two independent systems going (deck with it's "hello" message and MZ3 radio with it's "hello" message)? or ... how could I do it, if I can?

Nope... on that model, the tape player is an extra add on. It is just a radio you're buying. I can sell ya my old Mazda3 CD Player to go in there though. I upgraded to the MP3 player so I have the CD player sitting on my living room floor.

I'd be interested, but I won't have a MZ3 for a while, though.
But that does sound like a viable option.

I guess you don't have power windows and power locks lying on the floor too, huh? ;) hehehe

My main question is whether it'd be "plug and play" to put in an MZ3 or aftermarket player?

The aftermarket player will look pretty fugly. There is no nice kit for mounting it in the HUGE space the 3 allocates for stereo. It will also make any steering wheel controls useless, get rid of the display on top, etc...

So my best bet is to go with an OEM stereo, eh?
And isn't the system "modular"? Or is it just modular for factory stuff?

Hmm.... if I DO get a second-hand OEM stereo, could I add my own speakers?

Sorry, I'm a semi-technical guy, but I'm lost when it comes to car audio.
