I went to gas up my car, and as soon as I started to put the pump in, gas started to leak out and spilled onto my car. I didn't even push the lever to start fueling. I wiped it up right away, so my question is, will the gas affect the paint, the clear coat, or both? If so, how? Does it fade? Make it rough? This has never happened before, so your input is much appreciated. Thank you!

eh, i can't get technical as to how it will damage the paint, but make no mistake about it...it's not a good thing. Clean off the gas as best you can with the window washer at the gas station if possible and hose it off when you can if you're not going to wash the car.

Same with dirt, it's going to get on your car and can be bad for it ultimately...damn...., everything is bad for your paint, I'd just leave it in the garage and never ever take it out

I would run some water over the spill (usually there is a water hose with the air hose) and NOT use the scratchy window squeegee. Just try to wash the area properly afterwards and keep the area waxed. Every time you spill gas there it will either totally blow away or degrade any wax you've applied, so try to keep it waxed. A gas spill now and then isn't a huge concern, but if it happens a lot be sure to protect the paint.

I used to pump gas for a second job years ago, and it's best to wash off the gas while the gas is wet. Don't let it stay on the finish. Gasoline can eat it's way to the metal real quick.

I had a honda civic before and i spilled gas on the paint cuz i tried to top up the tank fully...

the gas etched the clearcoat and left the area very dull and unshiney... it's best to wash off the gas asap and rewax the area when u get home...
