Well i know this is something we have all been waiting for and i think i finally found the answer.

Just so you know i have a 2006 3i 5spd with the sun and sound package (steering whell controlls which i think are required).

If you hold the set button on the radio and then press the volume up on the steering wheel it will activate the fuel computer.
I did this today by accident and found that it worked. I now have Avg mph, Avg Consumption, Actual Consumption, and miles to empty.

Please try this on your car to see if it works.

p.s. once i got the fuel computer to work you just use the set button instead of the info button for the features described in the manual.

no not the trip computer which is in the gauge display. There is a fuel computer in the radio display. By default it is locked in the 3i. I believe they unlock it for the higher models such as the touring model

wow, that's a great find, if it works...

I already have the trip computer so I can't verify it...btw, the radio display is the trip computer, the guage is just an odometer with a trip view.

are you sure you didn't get this option and just never pushed the info button?

yeah the lower models have a "set" button on the radio next to the "clock" button. According to the owners manual the cars that have this future unlocked have an "info" button as the second button.

it toggles with the "set" button. and to reset it you hold the "set" button. Basically what ever the owners manual describes that you should do with the "info" button you would just use the "set" button once it is unlocked.

also to switch back to the clock display you just press the "clock" button and to toggle back to the fuel computer you would just press "set."

So just hold the "Set" button and turn the volume up with your steering wheel control right?

no i just held the "set" button for about 1 sec and then while still holding it i pressed the "volume up" on the steering wheel controll. I was trying to change the time when the traffic came on so as i was holding the set button i pushed the volume up and thats when it started working.
