I turned my car on, went back inside the house and than when i came back into the car i forgot that i had started it already and i cranked the key again and that's when i heard this weird noise. This has happened before but i never remembered to ask it here. How bad is this for the car? Or is there a safety feature that prevents from anything bad happening when you turn the car on "twice."

Lol, I've done it before too...a few times actually but I've had my car for almost 4 years now and no problems...you should be fine :)

What can happen is that you might knock off some teeth from the starter gear or the flywheel ring gear. You'll know this happened if the starter occasionally just spins & does not engage the flywheel.

Most of the time you just get a loud, embarrassing noise.

Haven't done it in the Mazda. I have done it in my Ford Explorer however. In the Explorer, I believe it must disable the starter while running because turning the key while running does nothing.
