Today I test drove a ms3 and '09 wrx. I thought the ms3 had tons more power vs the wrx despite what Motortrend states.

The wrx seemed more relaxed with a smoother ride, but had much less acceleraton from a rolling start of ~5 miles/hour.

The ms3 had more instant power in 2nd or 3rd gear.

That said, it seemed the ms3 was more of a high performance car that is always "buzzing".

I wonder if an exhaust with Cobb Accessport and tune would be enough for the wrx to feel more powerful than the ms3.

Do the same thing to an MS3 and it will blow the socks off a WRX. You think it was faster stock? Wait until you get intake + DP + AP. And it will STILL be cheaper.

Downpipe.

I replaces the stock pipe leading to the exhaust. MS3 drivers experince significant gains by adding a downpipe.

What is a DP?

With all those mods and the extra hp/torque won't torque steer become a a major issue??

Wow, go buy the WRX then, Jeeze...

The MS3 doesnt have torque steer,as a current owner I can attest to this.

The SRT-4 has torque steer, as a former owner I can attest to this.

I had the wheel ripped from hands in my Neon too many times. Comparitively the Mazdas electro-nanny keeps the front in check very well when hard on throttle.

I'm an MS3 owner too and I can tell you it torque steers. I didn't say the most on the planet, but it is this car's main shortcoming.

Especially if you have mods. More power means more torque steer.

Im not starting a debate here, but I have owned 4 turbo FWD cars and the MS3 has nonexistent torque steer. The small amount displayed is immediately brought to a stop by the front angle sensor that will cut boost faster than a set of blue lights.

Try driving a 265hp civic and well talk about torque steer.

My biggest peave is the ECM which only allows you to have fun for 3000 rpm's

Load up one of the AccessPort 1.03 maps and you can party all the way to 6800 :) :) :)

I remember reading in Car and Driver that the boost is dialed back in first gear (and maybe even second gear) to keep torque steer down.

My 45 hp 84' Mazda GLC had the worst torque steer. It had unequal-length half shafts, which made for really bad torque steer.

I have some torque steer when making fast lane changes under power in my non-turbo 3. It makes it hard to do the lane change cleanly. I would hate to see what another 100 hp does for this.

^^ Your 3 doesn't have the same LSD diff or electronic traction aid as the MS3, so it wouldn't exactly be like adding another 100hp to your car.
