only concrete difference at this point is that the CP-E is 3" and the Mazdaspeed is 2.75"
the mazdaspeed CAI isnt on the streets yet so there are no dyno comparisons to look at

cosmic forget one very important aspect...color. I have a black CPE CAI and they also come in grey and red. As far as I know, the mazdaspeed version only comes in a polished finish.

We all know that the most important thing when adding performance parts to our car is not the performance results, but the look! looks are everything...lets be serious here.

What's the difference between this one http://www.mazdastuff.com/product.cfm?ProductID=2835 and this one http://www.therpmstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=381{33}119{10}36??

the the Mazda on in the link is for the regular 2.3L non turbo that's a pretty big difference. also the MS intake for the MS3 is cheaper than the cp-e one and comes with a filter cleaning kit and splash shield.

Yeah, man, I know my performance will increase due to increased adrenalin when I pop the hood and see that lovely red intake lying in there.

[/quote] The Powder coating adds weight, so the guys with the colored CAI's will have worse performance due to higher unsprung weight.  :exnbprofl:

I'll stick with the Mazda cai. I really don't care what color the intake as long as it performs as advertised. And with the the issues we have been seeing with this car I definately am not going mess around with my warrantee.

something I noticed with the CP-E cai, I dont like to be negative about a product, but I would like input on what I saw.

If you look at the CP-E cai, check out the MAF housing. to me it looks like the 3" tube diameter from the filter side narrows down to fit the housing and then goes back to 3" again.
I cant help but wonder how this perceived restriction effects flow. sure the tube is 3" as advertised, but what size is the peice that houses the MAF? To me it looks like it drops .25" to the size that the entire mazdaspeed cai is.
am I seeing things?

it keeps the car from running to lean, by taking an acurate maf reading. X amount of air in a 2.75" tube creates a certian amount of velocity that the maf will read. with a 3" pipe the same X amount of air will have less velocity and cause the maf to think there is less air than there is.

I understand the reason behind the maf housing being 2.75" (perceived) but what effect does having a 3" tube before and a 3" tube after the 2.75" maf housing have on the overall performance?
how is that a benefit?

I would think that the overall performace on the CP-E CAI wouldnt be hurt at all from the .25 inch differance. I love gains that I got from the CP-E and the Turbo XS pipe togther..The car is much stronger and ramps up power from 2500rmp now. The CP-E is supposed to have an air stightner in the tube as well to help decress the turbulence of the air comming in.

Id be interested if someone could get a picture of that. I cant imagine what an air straightener is that wouldnt be considered restrictive.

Quite a few stock cars have them before the MAF. It looks alittle like a cat, square mesh, that is about 1/4 deep with 1/4 square holes.
