There is a lot of labour time required in changing the clutch on a front wheel drive vehicle compared to the older vehicle like Ford or Holden with the conventional driveline, simple as removing the driveshaft and remove the bell housing bolts and basicly the clutch was exposed, these FWD cars are a different kettle of fish, not having a shot at you but lift your bonnet and have a look.
How about the replacement of the ABS pump and module, $3500 roughly for a Mazda3 Hatch which will happen to your vehicle eventually, I believe you will get better value for your dollar than I would if you know how big and where the ABS pump is located.
Have you tried a few different shops for quotes, or is this only one quote??.
